Doesn't everyone do some amount of ball duty in the CNT? I've seen the top players picking up balls.

Well , they are not picking up the ball now, but back then, they picking up balls pretty often. They all take turn , 99.9 % OF ALL PLAYERS IN THE WORLD WOULD LOVE TO BE A BALL BOY FOR CNT

Zhang Jike was not at his best. He had a shoulder injury after doubles finals previous day (not very important, but at top level, it could be decisive).

Chinese chose 4 players for team A. Others players could be in top 15 or top 10 without problems, but it's because of chinese politics to let play only 4 or 5 players.

Perhaps they are afraid of too much chinese players in top 15, and they prefer to let few foreigners at top 10

That is called discipline. Its not like they are the boss because they have higher rank. I suppose ZJK will pick balls also when Fang Bo is doing multiball if there are no one else doing that. Some more examples:

what's wrong with being a ballboy? everybody in the CNT does that even the top players, with a bit of research you will find almost every big name picking up balls . especially if you look at chinese videos
