Noticed both Miwa and Diaz went back to Dignics A good reminder you don't always need the latest and greatest.
Even the pros can’t handle it, so what chance do we have? 😂
their Dignics are different from ours
Doesn’t make any difference, they still threw away the Zyre 03

I don't believe that there is case on "not being able to handle" Zy03, I think that it doesn't suit their playing style as much.

Well, if you're currently on 09C then I think your feedback and a comparison would be really useful. Better get on with applying for a bank loan so you can buy it!

correct,
at this time, maybe they felt the other rubbers are more suitable.
who knows what will happen in the foreseeable future.

If you watch some reviews and play tests on Youtube, you can clearly tell that a lot of them are holding back because the rubber has far too much arc and lands much too deep without effort. This rubber was designed for mid to long distance play. We dont need a 2.7mm rubber and neither do the pros. Time will tell if this rubber will be a 'L' for Butterfly.

Some dedicated Chinese users review Z03 on Bilibili. Some are pretty high level

2.7mm

  1. Too fast even for FH, even faster than D05.
  2. Not enough dwell time
  3. Trajectory very long and flat, arc is too low, more errors vs D and T rubbers
  4. Lifting backspin is more difficult than D rubbers due to extremely short dwell time
  5. Rallies from away the table is great

2.5mm

  1. Very comfortable on BH
  2. Little dwell time - not sensitive to spin, good for blocking
  3. Still very very fast, on par with D05
  4. Very good for BH drive
  5. Lifting backspin still a pain
  6. Very light weight

In summary, many said it's not worth the price. You might as well settle with D05 (for speed) or D09C (for spin) for less money.

I disagree with these impressions at least for the 2.7 thickness. Z03 is indeed very fast but D05 is definitely not fast, even D80 is not fast. Compared to Tenergy 80 or something similar Dignics is slower. Dignics is faster only if you hit it very hard, and still I don't think it's as fast as Tenergy 80. Zyre is on par if not faster than Tenergy.
Dwell time I can't comment but I can assure you that lifting backspin is super easy, to me it's one of the best characteristics of this new rubber, this and the feeling it gives back. Also trajectory is definitely no flat. Its long but is has a pretty pronounced arc.

Still, waiting for my copy to arrive and test it on my blade.

I tried the 2.7mm version today on both FH and BH sides and it felt like a non-tacky H3 to me. I didn't have to adjust my technique at all, i. e. I can loop with very thick/flat contact. Zyre 03 feels hard. It's faster, but not as spiny as a well boosted H3N BS. The arc is not as pronounced as D09C, but it's definitely not as flat as some suggest.

Just finished local tournament with Zyra03.
It is soooooo different from Dignics 05. I use 05 exclusively for the last 2 years.

I will be brief. I do not like at all. It lacks pretty much everything compared to D05. First and foremost the dynamics. It is a dead feeling rubber. Much less grip on the ball, much harder to create spin compared to D05. Less speed, less feeling around the net. Very very weird feeling rubber.

are you saying Togami doesn't feel the same way about the rubber?

I also tested this zyre03. Here's the video with subtitles. For me, it's very fast, and despite our optimism, I don't want to play! Not enough safety.

Why isn't that the main theme of the review lol?

I played with the Zyre 03 2.7 mm for about two hours on a Stiga Inspira Plus blade.
It is slightly faster than a Dignics 09c. It does not have the pronounced catapult effect of a Tenergy 05. Unfortunately, I haven't played with the Dignics 05 in ages, so I can't compare the two.
The dwell time is actually a little shorter than with the Dignics 09c. The arc is definitely similar to the Dignics 09c. The strange thing is that I get more spin against backspin than with the 09c, but less with a normal topspin against a block ball.
I'll have to adjust my technique i guess...

The same was said for MAX thickness when it first became available in the final decade of 38mm celluloid ball, where 2.0mm was the norm. When Bryce came out in 1997, it was labeled as unplayable and a few years later it was touted as the 神ラバー. Same for blades, where Viscaria was ahead of its time. As long as durability is decent, people will adapt eventually.
