This WD final is actually pretty interesting, unexpectedly

WMY
JCH
Hayata
KM
The multi-language exchanges during the TO in G3 was more interesting than the match, from Japanese (Hayata) to Chinese (左俊斉/Zuo Junqi [listed with a typo as 左 俊 on the official page] to JCH) to Korean (JCH to what's his name again?)

The interpreter at the end sounds so cute.

WD F
WMY/KM (1) 3-1 JCH/Hayata (-6, 8, 11, 10)
G3 69, 79 TO for JCH/Hayata, 99?, 910, 1010, 1011, 1311
KM was the one targeted as one would expect and clearly she was a bit fazed halfway in G3 but WMY hard-carried the pair.
G4 96, 98 TO for WMY/KM, 99, 109, 1010 fairly big net for Hayata, 1110 Dumb Hayata never dies, 1210. It didn't matter even if they could catch KM, WMY alone hard-countered the both of them.

Retire, Hayata! Absolutely useless even with a former CNT partner that is actually more capable than Ito.
she gave away 3 set points, couldn't exert force in the crucial moment (the effin weak loop in that lengthly rally), couldn't defend when needed, a disappointing performance overall. I bet the water break before set no.4 CNT coach just simply said "makes sure to limit Joo's attack and hit the ball to Hayata"

MS QF
Calderano (3) 3-4 XP (9) (3, -3, -7, 6, 8, -7, -6)
G7 03, 13, 14 TO for Calderano, 15, 25, 26, 46 TO for XP, 48, 58, 510, 610, 611

Visa issue for US Smash 2025 might have cost Calderano more than initially thought, especially considering it's the best year of his career as he said. His form here is better than at Europe Smash 2025 but the CNT is onto him besides Duda et al.

Xiang Peng is Hugo's kryptonite. He does so many things naturally that drive Hugo crazy. Sometimes table tennis works out that way.
Such a shame. There was more of an improvement this time against XP compared to last time. QF is still good for him especially playing his match against the home side in China.

Tomorrow they will have semi finals and finals on the same day and if Hugo had won his semi final tomorrow would have had to play 2 matches in one day. His playstyle where he has to hit hard would be tough for him to play 2 matches in one day.

Sora has probably the worst mentality I have ever seen. So much talent but such an awful mindset
Agree. I was hoping for a great show by Sora in this QF and a thrilling match, but alas. I guess the coaches have to work a lot on Sora's mental toughness. He has the skill, ability, strokes and what not. This match will not help him mentally at all going forward into other tournaments. I sincerely hope he can come out of this.

He will come out of this, I think he's figured out a way to play right-handers and beat them well. His style is pretty much close to Chiqun's when he plays right-handed players, and he puts up good performances against them. His ineptness against CQ in particular is a function of the similarity of their styles and the mundane rallies that are common in lefty battles. He'll figure out new tactics as the years go by and when CQ is probably no longer the force he is now. He's still very young.

CNT is lucky they have a rightie who knows how to play Hugo. Shidong didn't look like he knew what to do against Hugo last time, and I'm looking forward to seeing how their next match pans out.
The challenge now is to get XP to stop losing to LYJ and Matsushima. He's got awful records against them, and his style looks mechanical in direct contrast to their dynamic play.

I am a big fan of the CNT. I love WCQ. I also love LSD. I love all the Chinese players. And I have also been critical of LSD before in his losses, but I never ever really hated him. It seems like this is what the diehard WCQ fans are doing and he’s finally had enough. Even WCQ himself has had enough.

I am not afraid of having some displeasure with my favourite players if they lose (I legit called WCQ a bum and the worst player I’ve ever seen after his WC loss against Hugo). But the level of which these WCQ fans are doing is not acceptable, especially for the mental health of LSD and the other CNT who suffer the same as Shidong. And people wonder why the CNT men are at its weakest point in a long while, the fans literally hate their second best player currently! I feel bad for him and I hope he can put his best performance still to make the final in China Smash.
You then are also part of the problem.
And you don't 'LOVE' WCQ. You say you love but if you did you wouldn't react to him losing like that. You love yourself it seems and love that YOU feel good when he wins.

Your reaction to a player losing to an amazing Hugo Calderano performance is exactly the problem, people unable to appreciate what they are seeing just because they don't like who is doing it.
Sorry mate, that's immature, impetuous, disgusting and exactly the problem with these brainless 'hero worshipping' fans.

So you saying those things about WCQ and then coming here to call others out for shouting the same thing makes you 100% a hypocrite.

Every fan apologising or owning up to it months later doesn't make it OK.

@NetProphet : It's human beeing. When you strongly support somebody, it's complicated to enjoy when somebody else is better and is winning. Even if it would be fair to just enjoy good play. And usually you are aware of that, and polite enough to congrat the winner.

For the Chinese crowd, the weird stuff is nobody is managing them. And the weird stuff is they all support the same guy.

But I guess it is in current Chinese culture to follow their own crowd, and not taking distance. According to some here (@zeio), it is totally normal to bash their own, even if it could lead to a total talent waste.

They train for this all the time, top players don't really get tired when playing TT. But it is important to be fair with the scheduling as long as both players are facing similar circumstances all is usually well.

Its not about handedness, its about dealing with adversity with the right attitude. I think he will be fine, and even the match score and point progressions shows he was more than fine but the vibes he gives off when struggling will not help his reputation or gain him any fans.

I think this year Felix is building his game for the future. He doesn't seem sharp, and only got this far because of a relatively easy draw. Beating LSD in this tournament would be a shocker (and CNT fans would probably force LSD into retirement).
LSD still has weakness in near the table defense, and often be pushed far from the table. Last time when they meet, Felix exploited this well by attacking strong, or making pressure with very fast pace rallies, to Lin's backhand. LSD adjusted this by stepping further, or turn around, but definitely there will be the empty forehand corner left uncovered. From US Smash, EU smash and WTT Macao, I saw that this kind of weakness of Lin was still there and it was exploited by others. This is matter of playing style, so I don't think it would be an easy match for Lin, and he might lose tmr (noting that Felix and Lin both have similar style these days).

Sore played well the first two games and kind of gave up after that.

Now if u tell me u haven’t been mad at ur favourite player/team for losing then Ik u are lying. And ur saying u would never criticize a bad performance from anybody at all? Never? U would not criticize Sora for his mentality against WCQ yesterday? U would only place Sora losing on the sole fact of WCQ’s performance, even when it’s clear that the Japanese man gave up? If u were the Japanese coach and media, u would say “Oh sora it’s okay, you lost was because of an amazing WCQ performance and nothing else.”

Meanwhile, these WCQ girls are constantly disrespectful during matches, whether it be flashes, shouting when not supposed to, and blaming teammates for their player’s losses. There is a difference between displeasure over ur players losses, and what these WCQ super girl fans are doing

No, I'm not. Appreciating the opponent is the key thing that keeps sport, sporting.
Disappointed is one thing, abusive (like the crappy fans we're talking about) is quite another thing altogether
And ur saying u would never criticize a bad performance from anybody at all?
WCQ didn't perform badly. And you're not talking about criticism, you're talking about abuse. The fact you don't recognize this shows exactly the issue with your mentality.
Never? U would not criticize Sora for his mentality against WCQ yesterday?
No. I wouldn't. Some players have bad days and playing the WR no1 is daunting and if SM at 18 yrs of age doesn't have the belief or ability to do better than 1-4 then so be it. I commend him for beating XF, Franzisca and LJ.
The fact that you cannot imagine what it might be like in his shoes, V WCQ, in China being outclasses and overpowered and to still win a set at 0-3 down and after losing the previous set 3-11 shows your disregard for so many key things that it's laughable.
U would only place Sora losing on the sole fact of WCQ’s performance, even when it’s clear that the Japanese man gave up? If u were the Japanese coach and media, u would say “Oh sora it’s okay, you lost was because of an amazing WCQ performance and nothing else.”
Why are you harping on about SM?
Classic childish deflection tactics because you cannot defend your own actions that shows you are exactly the type of problem fan causing the issues at the moment.
You are a total hypocrite on this subject.
Meanwhile, these WCQ girls are constantly disrespectful during matches, whether it be flashes, shouting when not supposed to, and blaming teammates for their player’s losses. There is a difference between displeasure over ur players losses, and what these WCQ super girl fans are doing
Look in the mirror kid. When you've fixed yourself maybe give advice and criticise others.
Otherw your hypocrisy makes you look like an absolute idiot
