Actually, you know what? Since you asked, I'll upload another video.

Nice David.

You got game. Nice FHs. I subbed on youtube. Hopefully see some more uploads from you.

Would be curious to see some matches from you to see how you approach different things. Service receive, etc.

So just curious, the FH looping at 2:00. What do you like to do?

I have a lot of hook on my loop going crosscourt typically and if someone blocks wide to my FH, they're stepping around, I like to also go down the line as you did.

I can't tell from the angle but do you loop that ball all the same? With a little hook? Theoretically that'll break towards them a little more which is what you don't want but when I'm in a rythem hooking the ball and I try to change up the feel but coming purely behind & over the ball (as opposed more on the side of the ball as I might have done my last 3-4 loops) to not hook it down the line... That and also that part of the table is shorter, it's easy to send that down the line shot long.

So I often wonder if I should continue with my loop with a little hook. Do what comes natural to me. Maybe I could even start my hook outside of the table and let it curve in... Or try to flatten it out (no hook) and go purely down the line.

Would be really nice to do a fade there (which would curve away from them) but as a penholder, I find that shot impossible to do given I can't bend by wrist back like a shakehander could.

PS - I like your service game. I have a similar serve but overall your service height & depth is a lot tighter. Something I'm starting to pay more attention to... Doesn't matter if you have X number of serves. If they're not low enough, you're toast. ;)

Yesterday played with my funky el cheapo blade and rubber, went undefeated, me and the set up are a miniature version of Rich Dewitt, in size and skill levels.
Based on that statement, I should have run across you in my days of Boston and NYC visiting.

OSP , don't worry about this , I think its a function of being tight and having a little less confidence in your shots... when I was practicing regularly with coaches, I could see that I would miss these balls when coming back from a long layover and as I started playing more and more and got my confidence back on my shots , it used to come back magically

At first I thought it was me, and although I know the AH is a fast blade, way faster than most blades i've used, it didn't dawn on me until reading NL's post, that i may have miss those net/edge balls because the blade is faster.

*crosses fingers*

Thank you monster!

Surprisingly enough, I was actually trying to change my technique a little bit in this video. I know my forehand loop was wrong somewhere, and so I recorded this video to try to fix it. I usually have an uglier stroke that I find unwatchable.

I don't hook my forehand loops, unlike a lot of lefty players. But a little hook is natural, so you don't have to stop doing it.
Since I was focused on my technique, so I was trying to do the same loop. As for in game, usually change in placement and speed is enough.

There's this youtube playlist of one of my recent matches. My opponent is around 2200. I missed a lot of backhands I don't normally miss (usually my backhand attacks are more consistent than my forehand). Either way, he basically went easy on me for the first two games, and then won the last three. These videos were before I tried to change my forehand.

In game, I go down the line quite often actually, which prevents my opponent from stepping around and such.

As for what you should do for your down the line loop: when in doubt, learn to do both. My down-the-line loop doesn't have sidespin because I'm normally trying to hit it fast; but I can see how the sidespin variation can be just as useful.

Speaking of serves, I'm trying to change that soon

I used to play at his club and Wang Chen's club but not sure if either of those around anymore lol

I used to play at Wang Chen's for a year until I joined up the Dept of Parks and play at Lost Batallion Hall recreation center.

Wang Chen's is still on 100th and Broadway. When I went, it used to be 20 bucks a month. I visited a few months ago because a good friend's coworker said she was very good and will beat anybody. My friend asked me to hit with her and we met up at Wang Chen's but it was already jammed packed. Rates when I visited went up to 40 or 45 a month. Heard recently though that it went back to 20.

She also opened a club in NJ. I don't have location but have heard it was much more spacious than the Manhattan club.

Carl and PP Holic took me to Robert Chen's club a few years back when it was a fragmented club in a few rooms in a basement.

Ya Robert Chen's club is a shack. That's kind of why I asked if it was still around. His new flushing facility looks really nice in comparison, at least from the website photos :)

Is the Carl you are talking about, Carl Horowitz? Because I used to play with him

Vegas has never seen me, don't think it will be ready for the antics of the Goon Squad and TT friends.

With the new ITTF ranking rule change, I think players are encouraged to play more ITTF games to maintain their world rankings. Like last German and Swedish Opens we saw a lot of non-main-team players from China play, like Zhou Yu and Yan An, Liang jingkun.

Maybe a lot of good international players will go to to the US Open this year :) After all, it is ITTF official rated event. Would be great to see what the human limit of TT looks like in real life haha

I went to the proper state tt club today as our uni club is closed for exam purposes, which costed me quite a lot $22 for 1.5 hours. But the interesting thing was that I found a DHS D40+ ball on the ground, which I believed is the type that is being used in ittf tournament currently. So I used it for the whole session. I played 10 sets with my friend, which I may have lost 4 or 5 of those.

Here are my thoughts:

It seemed relatively easier / safer when I try to contact the ball early off the bounce to add top spin. I find it easier to counter loop. It seemed harder to put spin on the ball. But I lost to my friend whom I always practice with and often have more wins than loses.

The ball definitely feels different to 40mm and different to previous DHS 40+, I don't really like the bounce sound of it, and I think I am not used to it.
