NL, there is a player in Atlanta who hits hard as heck with Calif II... it is possible.

Smashfan liked the demo qabod I had last time at Korea flushing. Ask Carl about it.

Update on my EJing to get a faster blade - I really don't know how to play with a faster blade. I have tried again and I know that because of my limited mobility, I definitely need one, likely with a spinny rubber like Evolution MX-S, in order to compete with better players. Or maybe just something different but you get the idea.

But I used the Nexy Calix 2 as part of a test and blade review by Nexy and I played better. I even tested an Aruna, which might be the slowest blade used by a pro player out in the market today, and I played better again. Now, playing better, compared to my recent results mess, is merely playing around 2000 level, and there might be other factors in play here like improving health and mobility, lighter and better rubber etc. But the bottom line is I am going to postpone my attempts to use a faster rubber and blade until after the NA Teams. I don't want to piss away points in frustration because I can't control my pushes and blocks when I could just humble myself and use a slower blade until further notice.

I don't know if it's true in general, but - I feel that when you pick a new setup, for a short period of time you play better. Or at least you think you do. Or may be you do for real. I have no idea what's the mechanism for this, but I swear I have the same impression - perhaps that's what feeds the EJ bug among some of us.

Actually, you know what? Since you asked, I'll upload another video.

lol nice to see another lefty penholder. With RPB too!

I see you play in NYC. Do you know if Robert Chen is still around? I used to play at his club and Wang Chen's club but not sure if either of those around anymore lol

Of course he's still around. Robert has had multiple clubs. As of right now, Robert owns a club in Flushing (where I live). It's this:

I happen to play there quite a bit when I'm Flushing.

Which of his clubs have you played in? I've never gotten to play in his NYTTF club, but I have played extensively in his old Flushing mall club.

Ya I used to play a lot at Robert's NYTTF club. If I remember correctly I bought a package of lessons and never got a chance to use it all :) So I think he still owes me lessons lol

Some of the old NYTTF players there like Marcus / Albert / Wesley made a mailing list ([email protected]) so even though I am not in NY any more I still hear some bits of news here and there about NYC tt :)

Ya I have a youtube account to upload recordings of when I play. I just changed my paddle recently so have been missing a lot of easy shots--not adjusted yet. Once I am adjusted I will post some videos of my game soon for comments, now that I have enough posts in my account to be able post videos :)

My technique is fairly mature so this isn't what is happening for me. I still suspect I could do really well with a Viscaria and possibly a True Carbon. The problem for me is the handle design and the blade speed don't allow me to control the paddle the way I like to. In fact, the biggest thing about the Calix 2 for me immediately I gripped it was that it reminded me of the OLAM, another blade whose handle I liked a lot but which I didn't like the way it played long term.

A few things feed the EJ Bug - the change in sensation feeds a love for variety, certain equipment may make certain strokes you play feel initially better, but when your body compensates to try to produce the effects you had with the old equipment things can go haywire, the time period to master equipment is long but the time period to EJ is short, and I am sure there are other related reasons.

In this case, I know I tend to play most securely with OFF-/OFF blades or ALL+/OFF- blades depending on certain things. But I get this feeling that I need an OFF speed blade to put away shots with less effort. But it costs me a few things as well against slower players as I miss more offensive shots out of position with less practice. I think I can work with the true Carbon but I have to work on the handle to make it fit certain things. I love really flat handles because they make my feeling of the handle sync up well with the racket angle. Thicker handles and blades lose this feeling for me.

I have seen this same placebo effect ( or not ) in a lot of my friends ... however, what I have seen long term is that when you change setups , it generally opens up one or the other weakness in your game which if you stick to the setup you try and improve on ... long term if you are changing setups within a rational , sensible range ... you get better one way or the other ... atleast thats what I have noticed with me ... and of course you find out what it optimal for your skill set ...

now what NextLevel is trying to is to take it again to the "Next Level" ... which is , he knows his own game inside out , he knows the limitations and he is trying to find a way out to build a "new game" for himself with newer equipment which will help him overcome / hide his limitations .. now that is a tough nut to crack .. good luck to him and I hope he does find his the magic wand is searching the wand lore for ....

Hey everyone, it isn't too soon to be cheering for the Trouble Makers Bay Area CLC league team that ttmonster captains. Playoff begin in a little less than TWO days. I got my final workout in and will prep my recovery to peak on time.

There are 16 teams out of about 45 or so that advanced to playoffs. Saturday has 4 groups of 4 teams. Each time plays each other (3 team vs team matchups) and the top two in each group advance to knockout stage.

Our group is a true group of death, absolutely the top 3 teams in this group. So far, when we had all of our players show up, we haven't lost... to anyone, no matter how good they were. If ttmonster fills out the lineup card in a certain way to put a juke-move on the other teams, they won't make it vs us. There has been some grumbling about my rating, and maybe some others, but we all played at least 3 tourneys this year and tried to win every match. I am rated at what California says I am, even if I don't like it. I hope to change that at the US Open.

Yup, gunna cause major trouble down there, and yeah, we got some others who gunna wear those red jerseys with the Bruce Lee Tiger claw swipe of color. Got several TT buddies from Sacramento and looking at some of the entries, a lot of the Bay Area is gunna show up.

Vegas has never seen me, don't think it will be ready for the antics of the Goon Squad and TT friends.

Carl and PP Holic took me to Robert Chen's club a few years back when it was a fragmented club in a few rooms in a basement. Shyt got a little real later on that night. It was written up in one of my NYC Adventure threads. It was a blast that night, easily the stuff of EPIC.
