Why do you want thinner sponge? I think you will get more control but less speed and spin. Maybe will engage the blade more? Not so good at sponge thickness.
Progress. Played a tournament today. Won all matches in the pool. I have been fighting a cold all weekend and it caught up with me just before the quarter final. Fever and zero energy but I gave it a go. Lost a fairly tight match with 3-2. Managed to get my first yellow card as well. The umpire called a let after 4-5 hits at 3-5 in the last game. Need to work on my temper.
Question: Need to to replace my FH rubber as it has a 5cm crack in the top sheet. Thinking of trying 1,9mm sponge instead of 2,1. Unsure what I will sacrifice. Spin and speed or only speed?
My backhand is way more stable at higher speeds so Rozena at 2,1mm is excellent.
I play at a quite low level and I try to open up with a brushing loop as often as I can as it usually means a point at least 25% of the time. Rozena isn't a spin monster but I've been able to transfer the brush stroke from using tacky Chinse rubbers quite well. The issue arises when I end up in a rally. The loops quite often goes long (due to poor footwork) and my thinking was that maybe a slightly thinner sponge would decrease the speed a tiny bit but I wouldn't want to sacrifice any spin as Rozena is quite "unspinny" as it is.
So is it correct that thinner sponge = less speed and spin?
(I need to replace my FH rubber as the umpire looked at it for quite a while today when I got my yellow card for getting a bit too vocal)
I am no expert in equipment and sponge thickness. But i think speed is more from the sponge and spin more from the topsheet. So with thinner sponge you will get less speed and arc? but keep the spin, since the topsheet is the same?
If you are planning to play a couple of years and want to become better i think you could benefit from slower equipment. I think way to many play with to fast gear and this will limit their development.
Did you scream any sexual slurs? did not know you could get yellow card from just being to vocal.
Lower arc isn't something I'm after as Rozena is really low arc as is. I'll just get a sheet of what I've got. The stuff I've got is maybe be a bit too fast but my coach is ok with it I'll stick with it (she tries the setup of all players that she does personal coaching with).
No sexual slurs. I dropped the racket to the floor and went "F*N!". I got so annoyed as I just had killed the ball after 4-5 hits when the umpire the went "LET!". The head umpire was standing next to my table.
Okey. Then it is proably okay your racket. How does that work? When he is doing private coaching, is she renting the hall then? is she also a coach in the club? Some people have asked me for private coaching but seems hard to solve it practically i feel.
Okey, did not know you could get a yellow card for curse words. Thought it had to be sexual slurs.
She's a coach in the club. There're three options:
1) You can book multi ball with her via the club (1h shared with another player). Max once per month.
2) She's arranged so that she has the hall (a school gym... "gymnastiksal") for one hour after the normal practice. This is what I normally do.
3) She's the head coach in another club which has a 24x7 proper hall but it's quite the travel for me (45 min) so I've only tried it once. Time is somewhat limited as a single dad of a teenager
She's got her own company set up so you get a proper invoice.
Edit: He said that I threw the racket. I guess it's semantics. I also questioned the umpire as the let call was extremely late. He was practically sleeping.
Okey. So is it her full time job? Does she get a salary every month or does she get paid for every hour?
I think how the club pays her, if she in example have or do not have the multiball after the normal practice.
Would be difficult for us to have multiball after the normal practice. Will be pretty late then.
I have decided to try going mainstream - will use a Timo Boll ALC for a couple of months. Haven't used a Butterfly Koto ALC blade before. It will be a great learning experience.
How come you are changing blade?

Why not Viscaria ?
I have a training partner that switched from the Viscaria to the TB ALC 1-2 months ago and he can't stop talking about it. I've tried it a couple of times and I can't tell the difference between the two (I've tried his old setup) no matter how hard I try but that probably comes down to my limited skill set. The only real difference to me is the handle (which can be a big thing to some people).
