No, no, no! It has to be a blade after 2005! I don't know much about things that came before then.

It really depends on your playing style.

What rubbers do you use? Tacky or non tacky? Do you play aggressive? Do you play defensive? Who is your favourite player? What is your favourite colour? Do you prefer summer or winter?

Way back when Archo was telling slimjimmi that carbon blades were in every way better than allwood, and the more expensive the blade, the more spin, was it really bullying that some people like me felt the need to let Archo know that morality is entirely subjective? Or did he come out a better player in the end?

Life–to us, that means constantly transforming all that we are into light and flame and also all that wounds us; we simply can do no other. And as for illness: are we not almost tempted to ask whether we can do without it at all? Only great pain is the liberator of the spirit, as the future of the great suspicion that turns every U into an X, a real, proper X, that is the penultimate one before the final one.

And settles, without contention,

It is near to the Way.
In a house position matters.
In mental quality depth matters.
In friends kindness matters.
In speaking honesty matters.
In government order matters.
In transactions ability matters.
In actions promptness matters.
By not contending it never errs.

3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day

Excellent post, especially since I have the exact blade (commercial version for now) - I don't actually use it 99% of the time, but its mere presence in my bag gives me an extra confidence and helps my game.

Okay, all clowning aside, if the subject is the best blade ever, then, from my perspective, the premise should be questioned because there really is no such thing as a best blade. There are people and there are different blades that are good for different people. There are a lot of different blades that are excellent.

GOAT is a little different. However, the premise can be questioned. From my perspective it is a good idea to question it. The "best" for anything I can think of is subjective, and therefore open to interpretation, which means in some sense there is no such thing. And if the idea of the thread was to let everyone have their own opinion but somehow my perspective of questioning the validity of the premise was not okay, then it seems that not all opinions were actually allowed.

However, as NextLevel said, he'd rather strangle me than argue or debate with me on a subject like that. And I get that when I do have a strong opinion on something as I do with that subject (to choose one from any era unfortunately undercuts the greatness of all the greats from all other eras) then I get that I can be a pretty prickly SOB.

So, sorry for that. I was presenting my opinions and perspective. And I am sure I stepped on some toes, particularly when the idea of "Greatest of All Times....urm....but only after 2005" was presented.

Anyway, sorry. It is good to have you as part of the forum.

Hope you didn't mind me setting this up with a little goon squad adventure, I mean, practical joke, I mean object lesson.

Now table tennis and fun.

One fast comment... NL said something to the effect, he didn't want to read some posts as it would make him pull out his hair!

What hair? ;-)

I said pull my scalp! But even if it was my hair, I have hairs up there, I just cut them low enough that they are invisible to the naked OSPH eye!

That is for deceptiveness: sneaky tactics. I'm gonna have to try that out. See if it helps my short game. Does being short in general help the short game?

4 or 5 days, 150+ posts?

DAYUM, DOUBLE DAYUM!

NO COMMENT. :)

I like your approach! My favourite bit is NO COMMENT. :)

Hope your shoulder is alright!

I haven't had much chance to play tt after playing Monday, which I didn't record as I was just messing around with some friends.
Not sure when I will have the time to play again, due to the placement hours (since it's in HK, I'm staying in the hospital for much longer hours than in Aus.) But I will find some time to exercise occasionally.

backswing too early made the contact of the ball pretty high in comparison to the good timing. with contact being as high as it was, he couldn't go through the ball quickly without there being negative repercussions.
High contact is not really about timing, but can be sometimes related. The main problem with bad timing is that unless you are skilled in delayed whip mechanics, you often lose the ability to apply them when you backswing early as you tend to start your forward swing from a still position. Waiting for the ball to come down before you start your pattern lets you not lose momentum on the backswing and forwards swing and creates a sharp serve.

The early backswing server does have some delayed whip mechanics, but it is still relatively poor compared to my pattern.

Still waiting for help from our resident freedom fighters - everyone is free to rip apart my serve - it really needs to get better.

Not sure where the term "freedom fighters" comes from, or why it is being used... but my advice on your video is as follows:-

- You seem to be rushing a lot, which has resulted in some inconsistencies between serves. Take a bit more time between serves, even when practicing.
- Your bat swing seems to stop when connecting with the ball, maybe try following through a bit more with faster bat speed. I guess this is what you mean by "whip mechanics".
- You are placing the ball all over the table, BH and FH, with some bouncing once and some bouncing twice on the opponents side . I think its best to do 20-30 of the same serves before swapping to another. This will help to improve consistency.
- You may have another serve that does this, but perhaps try to disguise it a bit more? I would see all of these serve as BH flick opportunities without thinking twice!!

That's my thoughts on it. Its a good serve and your action is very smooth, clearly been practiced a fair amount.

My above comments would contribute towards improving, not fixing. :)

Just watched the video once more, I take back my comment on the rushing. You actually take more time than it first appeared between serves.

I have not been fighting for freedom, just standing my ground :) This is a free forum.

Well actually i don't like helping bullies, since it's likely that the help from any new gained knowledge can be misused to bully even more people, but i think for this bully I'll make an exception, hope you'll really appreciate it and don't bully me for pointing out things. ;)

Well firstly, since footwork seems totally overrated get yourself a frigging chair and sit your azz down.

Then you don't wipe your rubber with your shirt enough. The way you do it, there's not enough eletrostatic charge. Wipe harder, faster and more often, also your shirt is not sweaty enough, you won't prevent opponents from touching the ball like that. Your shirt should at least be drenched and dripping...

Then you have a way too small number of rackets. You should think of it like a golfplayer. They or actually their caddies always carry a bag full of different clubs specified for different situations, so should you do with your pingpong rackets.
Get a racket for every situation with varying playing characteristics from def- to off+
That will give you the chance to adapt to different opponents much better, plus the permanent changes will allow you to constantly challenge yourself. It would be totally boring using a racket for more than two days in a row, only sissies would do stuff like that.

And last watch a full episode of "Bully-Beatdown" and be aware that situations sometimes can turn...

Now on a more serious note:
Your motion seems fine when you do it without a ball, but when you do it with a ball it seems as if you don't whip your wrist as much plus your motion seems to be a little shorter with a ball, almost as if you'd been stopping yourself from getting too much spin. At least that is what jumped to my mind from watching your vid twice.

That should be enough for a start, now let me quickly hide my stankin' azz in another thread so i won't get bullied anymore...

F R E E D O M I'm fighting for!

Carl was mocking me in his comment, which does not surprise me :)

He chose to do the same when he mentioned the "2005 onwards" too.

I chose to ignore it cause it seems like normal behaviour from him and all it did was re-inforce your original post and our original point... :)

Hahahaaa ;) well observed and probably smarter reaction than mine.

You're probably wiser than I am, I just couldn't resist.

But NL was totally on point. I'm a total freedom fighter! When i'm not posting here then i'm most likely marching.

Sometimes marching for freedom, sometimes for brain usage and sometimes for no good reason.
