I'll be playing with myself...

There is no one-size fits all to table tennis - there are generally accepted ways of doing things and wrong ways of doing things in the context of shot quality. But there is no single way to do something right - each technique comes with advantages and disadvantages and are tied to the goals of the shot and the individual. What Yecats and you are is saying is very much right. But what I and Archo are saying is also right.

Okay, look, in case you missed it, this is a darn good post. I am going to explain some of why this is not only the case but that it is important that it be the case.

We all have different length arms, legs, torsos, each of us the upper arm in relation to the lower arm is longer, some the lower arm is longer. The length ratio between the upper and lower arm, for everyone is slightly different. The length ratio between the radius and ulna of the upper arm is a little different for each of us.

Way back when Shuki posted photos of his hand and the angle of the hand in relation to the forearm, it showed that his radius is longer in relation to his ulna than is usual for most humans.

What on earth is OCDCarl talking about?

We are all unique. A good coach would ideal adjust his idea of what makes a good FH stroke to the person so that the person can develop a stroke that is good technique in general. But also adapted to the needs of that person. So, ideally a good coach will help a player develop strokes based on ideals and principles but adapted to the player in question.

So there is a reason why there are no two FH strokes that are exactly alike.

Says who? Isn't it obvious that my forehand is a carbon copy of Zhang Jike's?

Wade Boggs, when questioned about his infidelity, was quoted as saying that he had to either have sex with a woman or eat a whole chicken every single day. I am guessing you are talking about something like that.

Shadow drills, ladder footwork and all those ball control drills from Marcos Freitas and the KillerSpin videos may work better than the whole chicken or what OSPH was talking about when he was referring to you "playing with yourself."

Hahah I like the chicken! Maybe we can ask Der_ to throw in some beers bets and affiliate it with playing table tennis.

True, but the best measure of the degree of rotation of the core is the degree of turn in the shoulders. Try it out if you are still a skeptic.

After all this time with Der_Echte having one mean-azz FH loop in ters of total power (the majority of the power as spin) I only realized how important it is to turn shoulders when I did the jist of the KJH vid last week.

To get your "guns" bigger than PPH? :)

PPH "Guns" are not so huge in terms of absolute size, Der_Echte prolly has bigger guns. Yet, PPH physique is absolutely CUT with a capitol C and proportionally, his gunz are friggin damn good, easily better than most in TTD.

Yesterday evening, I had a troubling experience.

I forgot my rackets at home despite showing up with the rest of my coaching gear ( had something to do with my cleaning lady). I was lent a racket by a friend - it happened to be the racket of a friend who was now in Vegas. And who bought the racket initially? Me! My friend had sanded the handle a little, added grip tape and put on two extremely light Nittaku rubbers. I coached with the racket. It was a 79g anatomic Clipper Wood when I first had it. With the light rubbers and everything else, it was 160g in weight.

So I coached and played with it. I probably played at least as well with it as I do with my current set up, maybe I missed more back hands but the lighter racket allowed me to swing faster. Wasn't particularly heavy either. Was amble the loop from distance as well at the table. Blocking too.

So why am I using a 188g setup?

I figured out what was happening. The rubbers were light. And it seems that they almost don't make the lighter rubber (Narucross GS Supersoft) any more. IT's a bit of a bummer as I would seriously have considered buying a ton of it in both colors. I used the soft one a while back, but I hear supersoft is even lighter and spinnier.
