RE: regarding my tournament. I filmed some videos, and its always a bit worse than i thought. I really wasn't moving well, and worse, my upper body was too straight all along the match, except when receiving. There were indeed some good winners but the overall performance is poor, even the set i won, i had maybe 3-4 good points the rest is more about my opponent losing his focus.

Not surprisingly, in the match against the girl, my upper body was less straight than in the tournament matches. so it might be stress, it is also because she is a BH player and wanted to win in the BH diagonal but thats precisely where i'm the more steady, and could keep the right posture for longer [or maybe she likes me vm and her letting me win was a hidden message ]? I have to make more efforts on this.

When we as amature TT players examine vids of our matches, the ugly truth slaps us in the face while the Goon Squad snicker laughs on the side like Muttley.

thanks for your small selection, its true there is little to be happy in this match, but those 2 points are. I wish i could do this (ace) serve more often...and that 3rd ball attack was sudden. I didn't even think, i didn't even hit as hard as i could, it was just perfect timing, good execution, it just happened

And this is my friend playing Karakasevic :D

Today he has beaten Fabian Akerstrom at Croatia open, so he won the singles qualification group!
I will upload his match with Akerstrom if possible.. :)

I hope he will proceed into the main draw singles event..

Hit with my modern defender buddy this morning. I've beat him a handful of times before but I would say he wins 80% of the time. Today I was up 10-8 in the final set and had 3 good looks at point enders but each time the ball missed the table by a hair. Lost 12-10.

While that's pretty disappointing, if in that same situation I would have gone for those shots all over again. They were the right play. just missed the shots. I would call them 50/50 balls. So I don't know what take away there is. Just have to try to hit a higher % of overall shots in. Missed those in the most crucial moment. If I could replay those points, maybe the next time one or all of them hit. Just wasn't today... Shame.

Also starting to think that rating is just a number and USATT rating #s are significantly higher than ratings central from what I see. Yes even ratingscentral describes this somewhere on their site but it became pretty apparent to me. Piotr, the modern defender I played today is now rated 1900 something USATT. Don't get me wrong. He's better than I am but I wouldn't have pegged him for that high. Go figure.

At the same time, I think TT is about matchups a lot of times. Just because you can beat X person, doesn't mean you must be higher rated than them because that person might be able to beat someone who you simply cannot. I can think of a couple of cases of this at club. Just some styles or players match up better or worse vs others. For example if I get to the point where I beat Piotr more consistently, I'm not sure what the take away would be since our matches are 100% different from virtually every other player I play. He's a modern defender and I'm a SP/LP twiddling penholder. The gameplay & short play/slow touch game is 10x more common in our games vs virtually anyone else I ever play.

Anyways, I'm rambling. Play style still feels good. Really, really needing my sponged LPs to get in the mail. I can manage for now but the OX LP attacking game is simply harder. Missing a fair number of backspin serves with my LPs attack I shouldn't have. Not sure what happened there. Attacking backspin with LPs is usually pretty easy. Just not today I guess. Furthermore, I don't have this great desire to hone them in (the OX LPs) given I have my good ole Palio ck531a coming in about a week's time... Patience. It'll be here soon. Then lots of training.

Rating by definition is a number, so there. It's a known fact that RC ratings have different scale compared to USATT - I suspect mostly due to the fact how initial ratings are set and also due to adjustment process in USATT. In Northeast for a long time it was assumed that USATT ~ RC+350, but that only works if player in question has well-established ratings in both systems, and there were not a lot of RC tournaments here lately.

As far as whether your friend's 1900+ number is accurate or too high - if he played enough tournaments, e.g 20-30 matches, then I say it is accurate. In the end it's his ability to beat players at that level that got him there. For all we know he's a beast in the tournament matches and takes it easy in the club (I see this a lot).

And yes, match up matters a LOT. Some people are unable to play against long pips (plus for me), but I struggle mightily against close to the table blockers - your tournament rating in the end will reflect this.

@Michal nice game... if you keep playing like this everytime, you should AT LEAST grab a win here and there once in a while.

What i noticed is most, if that you have a tendency to go too far away from the table. Indeed you can make 5 or 6 spinny loops in a row from there, -but not more, and then its a mistake - plus those loops are easy to block for him, because they are slow and you cannot create so many wide angles, thats what i think you should do overall to beat him, and its easier to do close to the table. He was also in trouble on your long serves

Overall I think you have very good touch, and you're still moving all around, i think you'd be much more effective staying a bit closer to the table and attacking a bit more with more determination.

Sir,

If you could do it once, you could do it again. Keep at it!

It's clear your 'muscle memory' has it ingrained. Just flow and let loose.

I know that :)
Its just I have been playing so many years that this is difficult to undo now :)
My idol was Kreanga for years, and he plays his big spins away from table and overall he is technically very wrong idol to have.. now I am working on all the bad stuff I learned thanks to him, haha :)
Staying close to the table is my goal, I try that on training sessions, just not able yet to implement it in the matches..

Btw, people posting here their matches, here is one of mine :)
I never won a single set against this guy, this time I was not far away from beating him..
I am the younger one..

You seem mostly okay in rally. Gotta tighten the serve and receive part. Usually, if you get level or take a small advantage on serve (get him to push and you open with a topspin) or if you topspin his serve, you usually come out ahead in the point. So mostly, serve short and receive with topspin.
