LOLOLOL

It would be my honor!! Anytime there is a NYC Goon Squad Mission, will do my best to join in the Fun!

Sadly, haven't played well since your/NL's lessons... although i have missed ~ 6 months or so due to injury and family.

EDIT: found my match and lessons with NL and edited it in my previous post.

OSPH, although Der_Echte could hold a clinic on Jedi M.T. trash talk mind fk, I had more in mind a very unconventional mini camp covering serves, change of touch, how to impact ball, tactics and counter tactics...

If there are 12 people willing, then I can make it over there.

If I am lucky, maybe I stop by NYC spring 2018 on my trip to Florida to meet the CEO to go over the books for tax filing.

Thanks @SugaD and @OldSchoolPenholder ... we won by a little more than then skin of our teeth and made it to # 1 spot ... here are some of the messages from the captain ( yours truly , known here as ttmonster ) :p to our team Troublemakers whats app group to give your guys an idea how tight it was ...

Hi Everybody, good news we beat them 3-1 and we can all have the bragging rights to say for one day were the Number 1 team in our Group .... but just to give you guys an idea how bad it was , William and I were counting matches all afternoon , because there was a considerable chance we would have been tied with two other teams on wins and winning ratio if we lost this match ... and it would have come down to who won more matches ...
Thanks to William for making the trip and for hanging in to win the doubles , we beat Alice and Sammy chu 3-2 and one of the sets went to 19-17 or something ... and William got the fairplay award for the tournament ( I am going to buy him a santa clause fake beard ) , he was kind enough to play three lets on match point when each of the points / serves were legitimate winner from our side ...

this was my message to william today afternoon .. "here is the scene on rankings, we are currently placed at 6th position. The two main threats I see are Ultimate Loopers and BHJTY ... if they will most likely pass us because they are playing weak teams tomorrow and if we don't get a win tonight we might end up tying up with Spin Amigos (Voltaire's team ) , on both points and winning ratio so it might come down to counting differences in matches won ... "

Thanks Kenneth for staying back late and staying steady and getting the last and crucial win ...

and thanks to everybody for being so cooperative with the scheduling , I think we have all done our best in the league phase to make the playoffs ... hope all of you had fun .. its going to become more tooth and nails from now on ... see you guys on 18th ... if any of you guys want to practice ( james and williams and kenneth ) if you guys want to practice doubles , please let me know and I will try to set something up ... I would say we should try to meet one day before the semifinals to practice doubles ... last but not the least " A big get well soon to Sandy for her wrist " ...

for the posterity ... and you can check how close it is in the top 8 ...

Go Troublemakers Go

Show 'em watcha got!!

0030 hrs and Der_Echte is now at home base camp.

Won 3 to 1 to go to 20 wins vs 6 losses. That seemed to be the required total to safely qualify.

Was bone tired during the long drive to monsters club, but winning made the trip back easier.

Took a couple pics with the new uniforms.

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well:). I haven't posted here for a while because of my shoulder injury and then I had my final exams. Now that they are both out of my way, I decided to set up my table at home and play some TT.

Recorded myself against the robot in the backhand corner. Criticism and feedback are welcomed as usual.

Y-day match, in one match I got net, the ball fell down on the table immediately and then went off the table..
I leaned down, stretched my arm and guess what?
I pulled out a roller!!!!
I have it on camera, but didnt check yet, as I think it is not visible due to my oponent.
Still the feeling is great! :D

Si-hing!!!

Welcome back! You are looking good!!

I have no technical comments because as you know I'm trying to learn the RPB myself and am an inconsistent looper.

But it's inspiring to see your strokes and that you are back into TT after the injury recovery and final exams!

Good to see you again Si-hing!

Hello DTT CCers!

Went to the club last night. Hit/played with 2 people.

1) Played F. I have never seen him at the club before. Good steady SH strokes ... good footwork and good fh loops. He's my level or better.

I confess I don't understand some of the terminology used in describing some of the rubbers like dwell time, etc. However, last night my hitting with F. I don't know how to describe this other than, the ball seemed to stick to his paddle a second or 2 before it came over to me... and when it came over to me, it had a topspin "kick" to it... accelerated after the bounce. He gradually amped up the speed and power of his loops as I steadily blocked for him. Then I let loose with my longstroke loops.

Mark Berg called next. As a reminder, he's 65 yrs old, lefty SH with anti on his BH. Good ball control and moves partners side to side.

So F. and i played a match. Since my summer break, and coming back to fairly regular 1x/week play (hope to make it 2x/week soon), I have only hit/practiced. Have not played any matches. Felt good to play a match again.

I found out quickly though that F. had problems reading my serves. I didn't think too much into what I was trying to work on some months back, namely controlled spinny 3rd ball loop, shorten my pendulum stroke on serve, serving no spin and serving pure downspin, shorten the FH loop stroke and meet ball earlier, etc.

I just let the old oldschoolpenholder in me flow... long pendulum stroke serves... smashing/flat-hitting lowballs/highballs... serve rocket serves and 3rd ball punch down the line or smash, not gonna lie, it felt good. And i made quite a few RPB loops! WOOHOO!

I would've loved to just hit and practiced with F. Great practice partner! But last night, many members showed up so we played matches.

2) I have not beaten Mark Berg before. But believe it or not, i have no interest beating him, per se. I know him from the old firehouse club in nyc chinatown in late 70's and early 80's. He knew me since i was a teenager! I'm 52 now. He's 65. We chat when he shows up at the club, and he constantly reminds me that when he was in his 50's he jumped from 1600/1800 to 2000 and that if he could do it, i could too. Peaked 3x at 2000.

I find it challenging to play him because he's a lefty, uses anti (i suck bigtime vs junk rubbers), and he has a ball control game which moves partners side to side. I use my matches with him as a barometer of my progress. Beating him is inconsequential to how I'm playing him

I can happily report I have improved a bit despite my summer break. I played with the american hinoki wrc-9mm with 2 tenergy 80-fx setup. I made quite a few RPB loops which surprised him and added a crucial aspect to my game. At times, I played steady to just return the ball and won more than I lost where prior I was looking to always attack and rush my game. I only gave him 2 points off my serve, cut that down from 4 or 6 last time we played a match. These 2 points could've been the deciding factor. I had a few smash winners, a few fh loops... but i missed a few fh loops also.

All in all, happy with my performance. First game, cruised to a 7-0 lead. I was on fire. Won it 11-3 or so. Then reality set in LOL i lost the next 2 at -6 or -8. Close enough games. During the 2nd game though, I almost sprained my left ankle. It was a little tender, was not as mobile, well I'm not mobile to begin with LOL. 4th game i won at 14-12! All i had in mind that 4th game with tender ankle was one point at a time. Win just this one point. Think of nothing else. Just be in the moment. Win just this one point.

5th game, ankle felt better, but i was behind most of the game ... i don't recall exact score, but he had 10 while i had 4 or 5, think i lost at 7 or 8 at most.

Sadly no video of either match. But felt good playing matches last night.

Addendum: commented i would try my old Avalox P700 with the DHS H3 tacky rubber before, tried it last night. After months of getting used to a tensor rubber, I couldn't hit with the H3 LOLOLOL

The pics of Der_Echte and ttmonster were taken by new forum member "confiscate" and I hope he posts here the 5-10 times so he can post pics.

As for his screen name, it might inspire an alternate team name for a future team tourney using that name and other words that rhyme or add embellishment. Thin "confiscated goods" or some other silliness typical of Der_Echte's imagination.

I hope confiscate causes some serious trouble on TTD.

Welcome back @JeffM ! I am sure you would have done this a lot , but I was just tyring to compare your stroke to Wang Hao's video ( which I know is not the most optimal thing to do but what the heck I know very little about RPB technique ) ... I feel the stroke could be a more compact and the recovery faster ( use core and waist a little more ) ...

Ok now it worked... lol

Here is a realistic overview of my match play skill at the moment :)

I think my biggest problem is that i go back after my open up. It migth be because i like to play against counter looper or people who like to pressure. So i step back and rip their attack on my open up.
However, I need to adapt to all styles and be able to stand close to the table, take the ball early and finish points early.
