CLC playoff are over for the Trouble Makers. We fought, competed, won some, lost some. Close. Had good fun and photo ops.

Won all our doubles though:( Too bad there is only one doubles per team meetup.

Lol you guys have nicknames? What's everyone's individual nickname? Because I thought you were all just called trouble makers!

Congrats on CLC! Sounds like you guys caused some real trouble on tournament day. And had good fun too!

Today was a crazy day for me.

In the afternoon, I was asked if I can be a substitute for a team in the Grade B Pennant. Seeing as I wanted to get some match experience, I said yes. I have not played any pennant matches this year (due to uni work load and injury), so I knew it will be some tough matches ahead.

When I got to the arena, I saw that all of our team are right hand penholders, while their team are shakehanders, where 2 of them uses long pips.
I understand how long pips work theoretically, but I was taken in shock at how to apply what I know in actual gameplay. I was confused so many times by what spin the ball is coming back, then I often pop the balls too high, or into the net.
The pennants here run as the following:
Each player plays each player in the other team, with 2 doubles taking place at the 4th match and 8th match.

I played a long pips player first, and I had such a hard time dealing with what was happening, I was on behind 1-0, then I thought i got the hang of it when I took the lead 2-1, then things went wrong again, my 'coach' says maybe I got nervous, my strokes become so rigid then it got to the decider, where I barely made it to victory at 11-9.

Then at the 4th match, I played a doubles against an inverted player and a long pips. For some reason, we just couldn't quite get it going, so we lost 3-1.

Then my second singles match, I played against the other long pips player. Again, I lost the first set, then took second set, but I lost the 3rd set. Then in the 4th set, I wasn't able to catch up and then lost closely with 2 point margin.

Our team proceeded to losing the 2nd doubles, then it was finally my turn as the final match of the matchup, and the team scores were 5:5! So whoever wins the last one will win it for the team!

This time my opponent was an inverted player. I had a bit of a relief, all this long pips business is driving me crazy for the whole duration. I went and took first set with ease, 11-4. I felt great, my shots were all going in, I was playing well. Then I took the 2nd set as well, thinking it will end well. But things never go the way I expected. I played horrible in the 3rd set, terrible start, like 8-1 or something.. so I lost that set, and then he equaled it up 2:2 (again, I was playing too stiff). In the decider, I had the mindset of going steady, then I got a head start to get to 10-6 (my way), my teammate jinx it by saying it should be ok. Nope, got leveled to 10-10, then even losing an extra point 10-11, but in the end, took it 14-12.

So I helped the team to be victorious. Even though I was just a substitute, it was a great experience, especially against long pips, and it helped me to hopefully get back into 'match mode' and hopefully I can control my 'nervousness' better next time and not be so stiff.

P.S. I recorded all my singles matches, so I will post them in the future. (Due to the slow internet, please be patient. I may do some editing first to try shorten them to assist the process).

Thanks confiscate!

Carbonado 145 feels 'good' for me. I don't have many custom blade experiences, but coming from Stiga Rosewood V, Carbonado 145 has more power / speed while it still has sufficient 'feel' on the ball for me.

Are you planning on changing blade?

Hey Jeff, no I just recently changed paddle, after my last one (Stiga NCT offensive) broke. I was doing a lot of shopping around and a lot of the forums mention Stiga Intensity as a good one for penhold (apparently Xu Xin uses it?). So I imagine Carbonado must be an even faster/more-powerful version of that because it has so much more carbon. Always wanted to try one at the club but none of the folks there have Carbonado :) That's why I was curious

Whoa, guys, if you remember the shot I was so excited about!
I got it on tape, and it is JUUUST visible!

Rally starts at 12:14 ;-)

Wow. That was pretty good. Nice catch, even though i disagree on some of your posts (mostly because of the transmitted attitude)

Not only you. I guess, we all need to do that

Oh, by the way: Did you record the matches of Alex yourself? His club TTCOE is about 30 minutes drive from my place. Just hit me up and send me a note whenever you´re in the area. Maybe we can manage to hit a few balls and have a beer or two afterwards.

Too bad its just Alex recording that, and he is so kind to share with me.

Hit about 45 mins last night with one of my regular training partners P.

In the past we alternated in being the 'attacker' ... last night i was all 'defender' ... i blocked the whole session for him. In the past, he just was steady 60% power/speed. Last night, before I showed up he worked out with his coach on 3rd ball attack and going 80-90% power speed. His coach took a break and it was my turn with him.

With his aggressive power/spin/speed, I felt the vibration on the American Hinoki one-ply. Whereas in the past, some of my shots/blocks, I credited it mostly to the Tenergy returning the ball, last night, it was mostly me returning the ball. Had a good feeling during and after the session with P.

Took a short break and as the club was crowded, I went home.

Happy Thanksgiving to any that may celebrate it tomorrow!

Oh, i see. Cool. That's nice of him.
Well maybe we still can make it happen sometime then. Me and my teamates probably will be going to one of their matches in the near future. But as i said, it's not very far from where i stay, so whenever you see a possibility to see one of their matches live, just hit me up and send me a pm.

Keep the vids coming.

As promised, here is a video of my best points in the pennant matches on Tues night.

As always, comment and feedback are always welcomed.

I will try to upload the full match videos when the internet is sufficient.

I might have mentioned it, but a few weeks ago I played a doubles tournament. Me and my partner won it, last year too. This time two levels up. Since I'm sitting idly at home (wooping cough revisiting, it had depleted my energy level visibly too at the tournament) I've had some time to horse around a bit in a video editor.

This is the result…
