@UpSideDownCarl and @Der_Echte....your posts are actually not relevant. In my opinion it's not up to you why TS would need a faster blade. Hence, if I would like to buy the fastest blade on earth and would like some blade suggestions, so be it. Even if I know I would not be able to control such beast. It's still my wish to buy this blade
I think you actually have missed a few things. First off, Der_Echte is just trying to be funny. I think, if you read it, and understood it, his comment was more about how many bases there are out there that are a little and/or a lot faster than a TBS.
Second, my questions were to find out more about dylancurryy to know what might be best for him.
Before I asked my questions I knew two things about dylancurryy. One was that he has been using his TBS for two years. The other was that he wanted a faster blade.
I could suggest 30-40 blades faster in a matter of moments, all of which are pretty decent blades, 7 or 8 of them are from Butterfly.
But having more information not only would help people help Dylan more effectively, but it would also make him understand and think about his idea and choices more effectively.
Now, if someone answered: "I just want to try a really fast blade." People who know equipment and how to play would likely answer differently than if he said: "I am approx 2300 (USATT rating) and I want a little extra pop on my shots to be able to hit through more of the 2400 level players I face in tournaments." The answers people would give would be different. Same thing if the person said: "I am just playing for two years and I want something really fast because I want the best racket to make my shots faster than everyone else's".
Now Dylan has said he is #1 in his age bracket in his country which is pretty decent no matter how you think about it. It also sounds, from his answer that looping backspin is not an issue for him and counterlooping heavy spin is also good.
So, based on that, I could recommend any number of faster blades.
But I still would want to know the reason for his wanting the faster blade. Here is another example, if he wanted something faster but something that still had good dwell time and spin for a blade that fast, I might recommend something like a ZJK ZLC (not super but he regular, the SZLC is not really as good as the ZLC). But I might also recommend a Photino. Both of those blades are really fast but they still have a lot of dwell time and help you get good spin.
But if he said, "I just want more raw power and my contact is precise enough that I can spin the hell out of the ball with harder, faster carbon blades, I might recommend Gergly, Sardius, Primorac Carbon or Schlager Carbon.
So asking questions actually helps you help someone and also helps them figure out what they want.
It is often the case that a newer player who is just learning to play will have in his head that a faster Carbon blade which costs more is going to be better. So when that is the case then helping that person would probably have more to do with getting them to understand how TT equipment works and what would be better for him.
But for a more advanced player asking about faster equipment, USUALLY, a player who is good enough to have a good reason to use something faster would actually know enough about equipment not to want to ask this kind of question. But, NOT ALWAYS.
Now, an important piece of information to know based on something that was presented: THE TIMO BOLL ZLF IS NOT FASTER THAN THE TIMO BOLL SPIRIT. But the TB ZLF is an awesome blade that is a little slower than the TBS but gets better dwell time and spin.
Now, if I knew the reason Dylan wanted a faster blade I would be much more capable of suggesting one that would be good for Dylan.
OTHERWISE YOU ARE JUST GIVING ADVICE IN THE DARK.
"I want a faster blade!" "Get the Darker Speed 90. That is really fast!"
When the person got the blade he might be pissed off that it is 9mm thick, weighs about 100 grams and is a rocket ship that is easy to break even though it has great control and gets a ton of spin. He also may not be happy that he got a really delicate blade that costs $250.00. But in spite of the downsides to that blade, it is faster than the TBS and it plays amazing.
But if someone told me they were a Penhold player who was looking for a nice, well made 1 ply Hinoki blade that is pretty fast. Then I would instantly say: try the Darker Speed 90 because that is an awesome 1 ply Hinoki blade.
