since bty is japanese it makes sense being top seller in their home country, because customers won't pay international shipping and taxes.

I don't think it's market share has increased in the rest of the world among the amateur players, the price increase is too high for hobby players, only for people with too much disposable income
Japanese people are extremely brand loyal.
there is a reason why 90%+ of the brands on the list are Japanese.
I doubt shipping and tax has anything to do with it.

sadly, data is very difficult to confirm
even Japanese table tennis company stated the the PPK data lacks full submission
so I have always taken it as surface value.

Each countries dynamics are different and if you were to tier them out to types of player (pro, semi pro, amateur, hobby etc), then it is even more difficult to place stats, since there are no body collecting these stats in such great depth.

One also do forget that the lower end does posses huge volumes, so do one measure in unit sold, or revenue?
Butterfly is at the top, but how strong, versus some volume hobby rubbers for example in terms of unit sold, I have yet to meet a TT businessman that could convince me of solid stats, as many of these companies are making bulk cheap rubbers and are selling volumes too.

my background: I am a TT equipment seller for 12 years and know people in Japanese brands like Butterfly, Nittaku, Yasaka, able to engage Victas/TSP with ease and have some what of relationship with most of the top ESN brands

Just last week, local retailers FINALLY got the green light to lower the price for the entire Butterfly product lineup. Dignics now costs roughly 56% more than a comparable ESN rubber, as opposed to over 100% several years ago.

Also, the yen just hit a 34-year low today.
