Does Wang Chuqin deserve the No. 1 Spot in the 2024 Year-End Rankings?

Fzd only has 3 events contributing to his 4400, compared to all those of wang chuqin and Lin shidong. Plus all of WCQ has R32 points which eventually adds up
WCQ has 5500 points from his top 3 events. He also has 2 ZPP and the worst event counting for him atm is WC semifinal, not any R32.

I think there really wasn't a clear #1. I think the year was like divided in 3 parts. Early WCQ dominated, then FZD and in the end lin shidong.

Lebrun was very consistent but he often lost like in the semi or the final and never really went all the way.

Doesn't matter. Weakest WR1, hands down.

Like LGL told XX right in his face back in early 2013, "other than being the World No. 1, you're nothing."

That's really nothing to write home about. LGL bashed ZJK next. IIRC, he once said ZJK's bold character needed to be coached with that attitude whereas ML's timid character called for the opposite.

XX even "reminisced" about it in a recent episode of 毛雪汪/Mao Xue Woof.

what's 0-19
The legendary CTTSL 2021 Playoff Final that earned WCQ the nickname 十九阿哥/Prince 19. There was also the MT F of China National Championships 2020. Both times WCQ lost to ZQH.

Along with WTTC 2022 and 2024, WCQ has since been tagged 團體蟲/literally "team maggot".

The new term is W32player
Wang (Round of 32 player)

It seems like some mental mountain for him to climb to be able to cement his "grand slam" position.
Granted, he still has age on his side
but LGY had never overcame similar mental issues, despite all the help he could get

I really think wang would not get la2028 gold medal with Lin shidong in the way (if its an all china final) and brisbane2032 might be a little old for him + there's the maximum 2 singles per player in Chinese table tennis.

In the World championships there is chance for wang chuqin, only if there isn't fan zhendong and if he can beat Lin shidong, all the other Chinese players are too old, and the next generation of Chinese men players I know of are pretty mid compared to the last 2 generation of men. And there's also the rising talent of European players, Harimoto is steadily improving, so in my opinion, I don't see a grand slam occurring for wang chuqin

LA28 is too far away but right now, WCQ seems better than the rest, in my opinion.
Just look at how he completely dominated Harimoto in the final! If he can maintain his motivation and mental stability, a Grand Slam is definitely within reach.

Lin SD is improving, though he may never reach the power and speed of Wang's forehand.

This seems to assume that WCQ has no room for improvement though, which I think he has.
I believe all of this will fortify him and mature him, he needs these scars to find his absolute best and real consistency again.
4 yrs is a long time and it's always a long shot to bet on any ONE player given the competition they face but if I had to pick ONE for LA 28 from all players now it would be WCQ. 🤷
It's a long wait ahead but let's see!

Well, defeating Harimoto isn't something to be proud of when you are WCQ. TH has always had trouble against WCQ out of all current CNT players. It's like Dima and Ma Long situation.
