Harimoto used it to get into someone, I can't remember who at the moment. Think it was LYJ.
And yes, the TTR is back to being used the way that faulted Ma Long so much they stopped using it.
Harimoto did indeed use it against LYJ during their match at the US Smash. LYJ had been using his pendulum serves as usual. At some point, he switched to the punch serve, which was immediately challenged. It was successful because the toss was not vertical (around 38 degrees iirc). LYJ did another punch serve trying to throw it more carefully. However, Harimoto challenged again and it was another non-vertical toss. 30.x degrees! I don't remember the decimal.
I am a LYJ supporter, but it was a bad tactical decision to try the punch serve again unless he was confident he could toss it non-vertically in a high pressure situation. Imo, the second challenge was a gamble by "Eagle Eye" Harimoto, but it paid off and not surprisingly, LYJ didn't use the punch serve for the remainder of the match.
Actually, I think the majority of the pros punch serves do not pass the 30 degree test. They tend to start the throw from the middle of the table, the toss is not as high compared to the pendulum serves, and they tend to hit close to the left hand edge (for right handers). Hence, when you play on a table with TTR, it's a safe bet to challenge the opponent's punch serve.
