On the very first point, you see what Alamiyan was complaining about lol. Togami is becoming the new king of low trajectory topspin, he might dethrone WCQ.

Watching the match, it is obvious there was an ambush. Next time will be better for LYJ but he has work to do for sure.

TTR has claimed another victim in Anton.
Regular use of TTR will force most pros to change their serves including top ones.
Finally, the controversy of hidden serve may have been addressed by players themselves.
That is the standard pendulum serve, I suspect if Anton used TTR against Ricardo, we would have gotten the same calls. Players sometimes don't know the rules. I am happy with this development though, it is overdue.

Recardo's serves were medium height toss, just about head high, mostly clean.
In Chinese serve doctrine, the body movement is part of serve motion to increase the pace and spin, just like loop. Most great servers use body movement in their serves, especially high toss (above head) serves.
Low and/of medium toss serves are relative safe.
Backhand or Tomahawk serve may see more use.

it really does seem like the German players are biting their tongue and unleashing TTR at crucial moments
The logic is simple. If you call early, your opponents will have plenty of time to retaliate using the same challenge assuming hidden serve is wide spread. Germans are quite calculated in this regard.

Side on pendulum serves often disappear behind the head. Maybe the lower toss might prevent that but then there might be toss angle issues. In any case the German team are serious, they have probably purchased and practiced with TTR.

for sure, and i love it. TTR should be at every big event from now on.

I suspect they can only built it out in the infinity arena in most large events. But I know MLTT is taking its own crack at things - the limiter is probably how to situate the right array of cameras to support it.

Apart from some inside out smashes in G1, QTY did not have the quality to trouble Hashimoto. The introduction of his new heavier ball didn't trouble Hashimoto so far. I am curious how the next match (presumably) against WYD will turn out.

On an unrelated note, at 5:5 Hashimoto did the "reverse" BH side/back serve (not sure how you call it, but it has the same sidespin as the pendulum serve) and QTY dumps it into the net. At 6:5, Hashimoto did the "reverse" BH side/top serve, gets a high receive and wins the point with a smash.
I have seen Hashimoto and Soto pull out that sequence of serves later in matches. First the heavy underspin reverse sidespin, then the no spin/slight topspin variant. Almost always gets them two quick, easy points. Good strategy saving it for later after all the previous standard(?) backhand serves.

good and not good
and then next, the players will address the side/edge, as well as racket controls, and while they at it, flip the scoreboard too (not that it hasn't happened before):

okay, maybe this incident is special, but I feel, the umpires need to take more responsibilities and the players should only focus on playing - and the players can challenge calls made, but that doesn't mean the umpires are on holiday trips

Table tennis as one of the technically complicated sports, tends to have lots of amateurish umpires/refs, among them are many elder folks(no intention to discriminate old people) who have declining visions, motions and reactions. Maybe TT organizations pay peanuts to these umpires.

you are spot on.
technical and complicated indeed, and that is why, at the pinnacle of table tennis, we expect quality and not just gap fillers.

A lot of money is spent to take part and to run an international event, it needs to be professional.
if umpires can't do the job, then maybe they should hire 3rd party companies that can do the job better.
Right now, it is stay quiet, until the players complain

For the past 2 months since he got Ueda as a personal coach his game has become more sophisticated and well-rounded, Today he dealt with Lin's bh flick wonderfully from service to 5th ball attack, doesn't lose too much distance when rallying.

Not just Togami but I hope the JNT men as a whole will be more solid as they finally have veterans sitting on the bench, inheritance is important. These guys already have much better techniques than their previous gens but need wisdoms
The LYJ here is like the Harimoto at WTTC 2025. Togami still needs to show that he could do it consistently against players that could make him feel uncomfortable as he touched on in the Butterfly interview (with snippets of translation added). Compare AJH beating Felix at WTTC 2025 and WTT CS Yokohama 2025 with Togami beating Jorgic at WTTC 2025, only to lose at WTT SCT Ljubljana 2025.

Togami Shunsuke came well prepared this time, his serving strategy effectively limiting Lin Yun-ju's signature backhand chiquita. He also maintained a high percentage of competitive play throughout the match, ultimately securing his first victory against the opponent 11-6, 11-5, 12-10 and tying his personal best in Grand Smash.

Coach Wang Yi-Tse said, "The opponent played really well in this match, making no mistakes in his low-percentage shots and controlling the opening game well. Yun-ju was constantly looking for opportunities to counterattack from a passive position, but unfortunately, he fell just short."

Let we start up a professional umpires company Tony! I offer you the idea, you can fix this organisation. 5% is okay for me.🤭

(TCB Bank young player Feng Yi-Hsin, who underwent surgery at the end of July, lost 1-3 to world No. 8 Slovenia's top player Jorgic in the first round of the WTT Europe Smash men's singles today, failing to advance to the round of 32. However, his fighting spirit, despite wearing an abdominal binder, was moving.

World No. 48 Feng Yi-Hsin scored two points in the men's team final at the Rhine-Ruhr Universiade, leading the Taiwanese team to a 3-2 victory over China and their first gold medal in team history. However, he developed severe abdominal pain on the flight back to Taiwan and immediately underwent appendectomy surgery on the day of his return. The doctor also advised him to avoid strenuous exercise for a month.

However, since Feng Yi-Hsin's 140 points, earned for reaching the semifinals of last year's WTT CT Lima, will expire at the end of August, he resolutely decided to compete in this Europe Smash, wearing a abdominal binder, in order to earn points and avoid a significant drop in his world ranking. However, his draw was unfortunate, as he faced Jorgic, the player he defeated in the semifinals of the WTT CT Lima last year, in the first round.

Feng Yi-Hsin overcame a 7:9 deficit in the first game to take the lead at 11:9, but Jorgic fought back in the second game, using sharp serves to seize points and win two consecutive games at 11:9 and 11:6. In the crucial fourth game, Feng Yi-Hsin was in the lead at 10:7, looking like he had a chance to extend the lead, but he struggled. After missing five game points, he ultimately failed to convert a serve return, losing 13:15.

Feng Yi-Hsin rested for nearly two weeks after surgery, unable to practice, and his physical fitness has yet to fully recover. He said, "The surgical wound is healed now and has no impact on my performance. I just wasn't decisive enough when I had game points in the fourth game."

Although he suffered a loss in his first match after surgery, Feng Yi-Hsin's outstanding performance at the Universiade attracted attention. Last week, Missioncare and ShareHope Medicine signed sponsorship agreements with him. The partnership covers training resources, equipment support, and brand promotion, fully supporting his climb to the top.)
