pistej doesn't just "play" with sandpaper......he made it to the final of the tournament. And here's ZJK using his phone to play:
Wouldn't really call either examples of EJing
This would like playing your dignics 1.9 tournament and a couple months later playing another tournament with ox long pips both sides.where's the EJ?
Is it a different sport just because he changes from rubber to sandpaper?Has nothing to do with EJ… he (as every other one playing sand paper tournaments) is playing 2 different sports. Like playing tennis and padel
I think it's half way between this, and the "completely different sport" opinion. Is it a different sport just because he changes from rubber to sandpaper?
The table and rules are exactly the same.
For me it is 100% still the same sport,Table Tennis, just played with a different bat.
You can say the same thing about certain playing styles such as defensive and long pips…I think it's half way between this, and the "completely different sport" opinion.
Can't argue with what you've said - Rules, table, balls etc are all the same.
BUT.... The technique required, the equipment and general tactics are wildly different from Table Tennis, which might as well make it a different sport.
The skills are broadly interchangeable, but they are still quite different.
You can, and I'd argue the same would be true to an extent. You can say the same thing about certain playing styles such as defensive and long pips…

someone is likely taking a video, and totally missing the point and trying to spin to suite his narrative. You can, and I'd argue the same would be true to an extent.
I'm not entirely sure of the intent of this thread, but it seems to take the stance that "ej'ing isn't that bad... look at this".
Someone ej'ing between attacking MAX reverse rubbers, and then switching to long pips, and then to sandpaper..... Is not going to achieve great results.
Of course the pro's can use anything, but they train exclusively for months with sandpaper before big tournaments (source... I used to play for the same club where Andrew Baggaley trained).
Like others have said, the videos aren't ej'ing as such.
I'd be more impressed if it was Ma Long getting to the Olympic final using long pips 😂
Pistej in both fragments is what's probably meant. Extreme high level regardless of gear used.where's the EJ?
Not everyone is looking for the best result, but for the most fun. I know I am…You can, and I'd argue the same would be true to an extent.

If people decide to play football today, using a leather covered pigs bladder as they did a few hundred years ago is still football.
Or skiing on wooden skiis, tennis with wooden rackets etc is still tennis.
Just the equipment limits what you can do and how much speed/power you can achieve but still the same sport.
Just my opinion tho
