funny reaction at club because of tacky rubber

Last Friday, we had a little tournament at our club. I believe I am the only one using Chinese rubbers. Between matches, I sat down to have a drink and placed my racket on the table. The racket rested on one side on a table tennis ball.

When it was time for me to play the next match, I lifted the racket off the table, but the ball remained attached to the rubber. It didn’t let go immediately; instead, it clung stubbornly. I had to shake the racket vertically to convince the ball to drop.

The man next to me (who is 86 years old) stared wide-eyed, wondering what kind of witchcraft I was practising! 😄

I also would like to know what rubber this is, I guess it is one that has been manufactured years ago . These days tacky (or sticky) rubbers are nowhere near as tacky as they used to be , even though they are still advertised as such.

Just a week or so ago, my Loki Arthur China that has over 50 hrs of play time since February or so was able to pick up a ball and keep it stuck while holding my racket upside down. Not for a few seconds but for over 15 seconds when I shook the racket a little to make it fall.

I don't even remember it doing that while new. It's very random when the rubber decides to be ultra sticky or not. Some combination of the ball used, the weather conditions, how you cleaned it the time before, etc.

So some current rubbers are currently capable of this too, just not all the time.
