How good are old blades?

I have just started playing the game again after a break of more than 10yrs. My question is have blades changed that much over the years? I am using a Stiga Offensive S. Bengtsson that I purchased back in 1986. I bought an inexpensive Donic Appelgren Allround thinking I may need more control coming back in to the game but found I had trouble hitting winners against players with a good defence. Are the new Stiga( offensive) blades very different to the one I use? Just a little side note my first blade was a Butterfly Surbek that I still own. It feels very heavy and slow if I use it now.

Some are better than others and some are simply GREAT as they do not make them the same sometimes.

I have an ancient Primorac Carbon that is an excellent backup bat for my OFF setup.

Control can be an individual thing for a certain setup. Myself, I cannot control crap using a classic stiga blade, not at all, simply an epic fail. I pick up a $10 Chinese blade and hit great with it. One has to try some things to find his equipment zone, so try to use every friend's a bit for a bit to see what you like.
