I'd be lucky if I got to practice with better players. They tend to excuse themselves after a match and go find players "more their level" or something. I make sure I don't do that and play all comers. That's fine, because I know I am always improving whether with gear more suitable for me or by trying new tactics and strokes. In fact I beat a player last league competition who previously beaten me 3:0 by blocking down all my loops. I switched to hard fast drives that I tried in practice with a lower levelled player before and figured out a different way to exploit weak returns and passive blocks with the Chinese style FH rubber I have with Long 5.
