i use the chinese style of forehand topspin, and as u know all the top chinese players have big backswings. I cant drag my arm back that quick and it makes me hit the ball behind my body sometimes and it forces me away from the table,

does anyone know how i can increase my backswing speed so i can hit the ball infront of my body everytime, or any drills that can help me switch from backhand to forehand consistently :)

I think u should try to strengthen ur abs, so u can turn around ur upper body faster. For switching from FH to BH I think it is important to get ur bat in a 'neutral' spot after every stroke. A position from which u can make a FH as well as a BH stroke fast enough. But if u play Chinese style u should be more FH orientated I think. That requires very quick feet though. In a fast rally they often use BH for block only.

Big chinese FH requires early preparation.(I've got massive back swing). The back swing goes back very early; ie after the ball leaves the opponent's racket. Try to anticipate the next shot coming to you. You see, with big swings, your racket is travelling greater distance..combination of pulling the back swing & the forward projection in the process of hitting the ball. So, preparation and anticipation is the key, just like Wiwa said, this requires exceptional footwork.

Getting FH to BH is easy, but with your big swings, getting from BH to FH is a nightmare. When I was younger, a whole lot younger, I use to stand way to the left (I'm a righty), opening my FH more (basically enticing my opponents to go for my FH). BH was for blocking only. If your FH is your primary weapon, probably you can do this..but if you use your BH as offence too, maybe you have to step back a little to give you more time to wind your big FH
