Guys.
We are organizing a small tournament in our office. There have been lot of objections against a player who is playing with a dead bat which is almost 10 years old..Could someone clarify the doubt whether is it allowed or not as per the ITTF rules?

About the rules:

2.04.07.01 Slight deviations from continuity of surface or uniformity of colour due to accidental damage or wear may be allowed provided that they do not significantly change the characteristics of the surface.

So, technically it is not allowed, because the characteristic of that rubber already significantly changed.

If the rubber is that old you could also see if they are still on the ITTF approved list.

My local league has a couple of players who use rubbers which are so old they have almost become like a couple of sheets of coloured glass (in fact I think one player painted one side of his bat with gloss paint when they introduced the two colour rule).

I like it as a challenge and have no problem with it - but it sure makes a difference and can give a real advantage to the user.

Not approved by ittf regulations for sure... So if you want to play hardball with this guy, you shouldn't allow it. If you think you are man enough to face it, let it be...
