Is it bad to have 2 different rubber thicknesses on a blade?

There is no problem. Most new players have some trouble with their BH so they use 1.7 or 1.8 in BH. Just be sure not to swich sides very often. It is important that you get used to the rubbers you are using. If you flip sides every time you hit the ball, it will feel diferent every time.

What bat are you assembling?

I like block and push in BH.

I like soft rubbers for blocking. But i don't play C-pen. Why not a chinese rubber with a lot of control? They're cheap and get the work done. But ask Carl or other of the equipment masters! they will sure recommend you the perfect rubber.
