three exciting play-in matches left on the women's side
Goda - Polcanova s/b great
Lily - SHW
Bruna - Batra Bruna is in great form this year, hope it continues for her.
LOL - I didn't even count Km v Meshref as a play-in bc I thought result is foregone. Dina thinks differently. Just turned back to the stream in time to see her win G1 11 - 6. That would be more surprising than WYD going out to LJN honestly. Still very unlikely, but pressure on KM now.

Someone needs to create a spreadsheet with those 3 games so we can see it more clearly the games won and how many points and how it was decided who went through.

I don't think we need to create a spreadsheet.

The qualification order is below:
Matches > Games > Points.

Jeni didn't win any matches, she's out.
Yidi won Jeni, but that doesn't count because Jeni is out.
Jianan won Yidi, so she goes through.

This scenario is very simple.

Things start to get complex when the two (or three) best of three players do not win-loose the match opposing them. Or if each of the three win one match. Only in this case you look at games.

Enjoying this drama between HY and Odo (via her coach Sakamoto).

HY: I honestly couldn't see the ball clearly. Without those (allegedly illegal) serves, I feel like it would have been more of a fight.

Sakomoto (key bits I am able to understand): The point about being able to challenge using TTR indefinitely if successful is absurd (めちゃくちゃ).

I protested against the validity of HY's challenge during the second game because she had already returned the ball. Even though the umpire ultimately declared the challenge a failure, she did not award Odo the point and instead got them to replay the point again. When I explained the rule to the umpire, she replied "I don't know".

HY challenged during the third game, this time without returning the serve which is fair. The umpire went on to fault Odo even though the the service contact point was visible. This is in line with the official rules, although the umpire disagreed and said that the ball should be visible at all time from toss to contact. This new rule makes no sense as it's impossible for the table tennis balls to be tossed near vertically due to their light weight.

We have no choice but to practise serving using our BHs out of fear of being faulted for FH serves.

Holy, Felix Lebrun is out. The Chinese Taipei player is moving on to the 2nd stage
Feng HS played really well. What a tight contest.

Felix's form has definitely taken a downturn over the last 6 months.

The year before that he was almost guaranteed a victory against any non-chinese.

On the eye test, his play style appears to have changed. His power has increased away from the table on both wings and his forehand especially has more power.

But he no longer plays so close to the table with such ferocity. I wonder if he's sacrificing some form in order to develop better in the long term or if he's lost a bit of his speed and mental edge.

It'll be interesting to see how he develops.

It's quite possibly just a bit of a dip, what he's already achieved is phenomenal and he's still a great player.

I love the way they like to pretend that they never knew they were cheating.

Poor Lily. She actually played SHW pretty well, but errors crept in and her confidence dropped. Perhaps from the pressure of needing to win 3-1 or 4-0 as SHW held the tie breaker.
She fumbled that.

It's always difficult mentally to go against pips. Suh just did her thing and let Lily mess up.

Congratulations to Suh but I feel really bad for Lily there.

Definitely lost confidence and concentration in the final set.
I wonder if the confusing format was getting to her head.
She did so well in set 3, played some lovely points.

Bruna gets her continental boost, but at least she's significantly improving. She dominates Manika to move into KO. Well done.
I think the seamless ball helps a bit too - it has always bounced a little higher in my experience and helps spin players a tad bit (even if they are power players as well).
