2020東京五輪卓球日本代表で混合ダブルス金メダリストの水谷隼氏（36）が9日、TBS系「ひるおび」（月～金曜午前10時25分）に生出演。中国・成都市で開催された卓球混合団体W杯の取材で現地を訪れた際の様子について語った。

11月7日の高市早苗首相の国会答弁以降、中国から政治や経済などの圧力がかけられている状況についてMC恵俊彰が説明。11月30日から12月7日まで中国で卓球混合団体W杯が開催され、水谷氏も現地で取材をしていた。恵が「どうでしたか雰囲気は」と尋ねた。

すると水谷氏は「いつにも増して緊張はありましたね。渡航する前から街には出歩かないとか、日本語を話さないとか、実際に会場も出るときにはパスを外して、日本人だってことをバレないように移動はしていました」と語った。

Mizutani Jun (36), a member of the Japanese table tennis team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and a gold medalist in the mixed doubles event, appeared live on TBS's "Hiruobi" (Monday-Friday, 10:25 AM) on the 9th. He spoke about his visit to Chengdu, China, to cover the Table Tennis Mixed Team World Cup.

MC Megumi Toshiaki explained the political and economic pressure China has been exerting since Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae's Diet response on November 7th. The Table Tennis Mixed Team World Cup was held in China from November 30th to December 7th, and Mizutani was also there to cover the event. Megumi asked, "What was the atmosphere like?"

Mizutani responded, "I was more nervous than usual. Even before I left, I avoided going out in the city, didn't speak Japanese, and even removed my pass when leaving the venue to avoid revealing that I was Japanese."

　東京五輪卓球混合ダブルス金メダルの水谷隼氏（36）が9日、TBS系「ひるおび」（月～金曜前10・25）に生出演し、卓球の混合団体W杯のため訪れていた中国・成都の雰囲気について語った。

　7日まで開催されていた同大会に、テレビ東京の中継アンバサダーとして現地入りしていた水谷氏。日中関係の緊張感が高まる中とあって、「いつにも増して緊張感は凄くありました」と告白した。

　現地では、細心の注意を払いながら行動していたという。「渡航する前から街には出歩かないとか、あまり日本語を話さないとか、実際、会場の時も基本的に外を歩く時にはパスを外して、日本人だということがバレないように移動はしていました」。また「もちろんこういう状態にありますから、いつもよりは緊張はしていましたし、何か危害を加えられるかもしれないという恐怖はありました」と本音を打ち明けた。

　08年から2年間、中国スーパーリーグでプレーしており、中国へは数十回、渡航しているという水谷。「何かされたことはないし、中国で卓球の大会を開かれることはもの凄く多くて、今まで何十回も行っていますけど、特にトラブルになるようなことはなかった」と振り返った。

　一方、水谷に先行して現地入りしたスタッフは、入国の際に別室に連れて行かれたという。「僕が行く前に、テレビ局のスタッフさんが入国する時に別室に連れて行かれて、唾液の検査をされたと聞いて。入国するのに時間がかかったと聞いていた」。新型コロナウイルスの流行期以外では珍しい唾液検査で、水谷氏は「なぜか唾液の検査だったかは分からないですが、選ばれた方は唾液の検査をされたということです」と説明した。

　自身の入国の際には特にトラブルはなかったようで、「入国する時に“卓球の水谷選手だ”みたいなことを言われて、笑顔でどうぞどうぞみたいな感じで、ウェルカムな感じはありました」と明かしていた。

He also confessed, "Of course, given the current situation, I was more nervous than usual and was afraid that I might be harmed in some way."

Mizutani played in the Chinese Super League for two years from 2008, and has traveled to China dozens of times. "Nothing has happened to me, and there are a huge number of table tennis tournaments in China, so I've been there dozens of times, but there's never been any particular trouble," he recalled.

Meanwhile, the staff who arrived in China before Mizutani were taken to a separate room upon entering the country. "Before I left, I heard that the TV station staff were taken to a separate room and had a saliva test when they entered the country. I heard that it took a long time to enter the country." Regarding the saliva test, which is rare outside of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mizutani explained, "I don't know why it was a saliva test, but those who were selected were given a saliva test."

It seems he did not encounter any particular problems when he entered the country, revealing, "When I entered the country, they said something like, 'You're table tennis player Mizutani,' and they smiled and said, 'please come in,' so I felt very welcome."

May I know how do the matches in this tournament work? It’s really odd. Just saw Harimoto vs Dang Qiu. Harimoto took the third set-and was the only set he won. What kind of best of 3 is this? It doesn’t make sense to me.
