To have more money means to have more views and attention.for sports people, we call it sports
for business people, it is called entertainment and there is profits and there is loss.
table tennis is not an easy busy...
if it wasn't for self funding of players, WTT participation (senior and junior) would decease by a hefty percentage and there would be no entertainment what so ever.
So, I feel, for WTT and ITTF to be successful, players need to have regular income, and this is what the leagues can give players that WTT/ITTF can't.
they need to find a structure that players can both play domestic leagues as well as international competition.
in the case for many sport codes, domestic leagues are bigger than international, except for say tennis, golf.
With the introduction of new ball table tennis became a little too boring for people to watch: no diversity in player base (Truls and Felix are good exceptions), no diversity in playing styles (where are all the top defenders?), these days table tennis is mostly pew-pew-pew, unfortunately.
TT became too niche, people who play and know table tennis - these are people who still adore the (skillful), but still pew-pew-pew style of table tennis.
I don't want to re-watch ML vs FZD Olympic finals.
However, I really enjoy re-watching some of the older games: 2008 Ma Lin vs Wang Hao, some random 2011 Opens are even more entertaining..or may be I am getting old.
