They had ABC last time and lost, it was really the benefit of having played the first match which enabled adjustments for players to reverse or improve prior results.

Actually they didnt have ABC but my point still stands.
So far whenever Harimoto took the 1st match then Matsushima would take the 2nd match as well whenever JPN was the ABC team (FRA in Grp and GER in KO). On the flip side, Matsushima always lost the first match (GER in Grp and KAZ in KO) whenever JPN was the XYZ team.

If JPN were the XYZ team this time as well, there is no telling Matsushima might've lost. As the 2nd singles player, he's not shown the ability/stability to take on the 1st singles player of the opposing team. Given all that, Harimoto is less lonely but still lonely. And as Bobrow said at the end of the match, "Tomo, still the leading man for Japan."

this is aging well :p

haha doesnt matter , it was still a great set for dang qiu, sora is such a power player and if you dont break his rhythm you are toasted in no time. at such a young age it is remarkable that he serves long fast serves alot, takes away from the opponent the ability to fool him with short short or flick openings. cuts straight to the rally where he is one of the best right now. Rosskopf should have put patrick 2nd , franziska was a better matchup against matshushima imo. He obviously had a different plan in his mind

Also why this format is questionable, the concept of seeding groups to begin with, but then having a coin flip to face each other again. Korea beating China to be 2nd instead of 3rd just to draw them again, they could've had the same with a loss.

This match win was deserved for Japan though. DQ couldn't take any of the tight moments and it would've needed a lot.
TH took a break with his last lost matches, to be on top today. Ok, now 🤞 for the girls!

It is instructive to see how much better Harimoto returned serve and defended his middle. He needs to play more like that and less like a statue.

You mean the fact that Dang beat Sora comprehensively just a few days earlier would encourage you to try a different strategy?

Well rosskopf is a german and german people in general dont like changes. I dont watch it only from rossi's POV though , mixing the cards is a double edged sword but I would have confidence in patrick's performance. Also I think dang qiu could beat togami, togami seems to be affected alot psychologically when things go even slightly wrong

p.s. lol it seems like I jinxed DHK, sabine adapted very well. what a fight
