今年の世界卓球のシングルスの代表は全日本よりとっくの前に決まってて、松島はチャンスを散々与えられてたのに掴めなかったんだから仕方ない。
今年の全日本優勝者は次のアジア選手権の代表権を与えられている。来年の世界卓球の代表選考基準も既に公表されていて、今年のアジア選手権の代表選手は優先的に選出されることになっている。松島が全日本王者になったため、相応の権利が与えられた。
(The representatives for this year's WTTC singles were decided long before the Zennihon, and Matsushima was given countless chances but couldn't grab them, so it can't be helped.
The winner of this year's Zennihon is given the right to represent Japan at the next ATTC. 若い割に健闘していると思うけど、まだまだ世界に通用しているとは言えない
大籐選手のように国際大会を勝ち上がってランキングを上げ、堂々と日本代表として世界選手権や五輪に出場できるように成長して欲しいと思います

I think he's doing well considering his age, but I can't say he's ready for the world yet

過去の選考基準により選出された五輪代表を選出時点から1年以上先の世界卓球の代表に突然後付けでしたのは不公平。五輪代表選考基準そのものに多々物議が呈されていたし、また熾烈な争いであったもの。きちんとリセットした上で世界卓球開催時に国内最高レベルに成長してる選手を新たに選出すべきであったと思う。アジア選手権は国としての枠の確保であり、他国はアジア選手権で枠を確保した選手をそのまま世界卓球の代表にはしていない。協会には疑問を感じざるをえない。
(It is unfair that the Olympic representatives selected based on past selection criteria were suddenly made representatives for the WTTC, which are more than a year away from the time of selection. The Olympic representative selection criteria themselves have been much controversial, and the competition was fierce. I think they should have reset the criteria properly and selected new players who have grown to the highest level in the country by the time the WTTC are held. The ATTC are to secure slots for each country, and other countries do not make players who have secured slots at the ATTC their representatives for the WTTC. I cannot help but feel skeptical about the association.)

事前に選考基準を公表せずに協会が恣意的に出場選手を決めたのならともかく、事前に公表していた選考基準通りに選出されているのだから問題ない。シングルスの出場権を獲得した選手たちはいずれもアジア大陸予選で自力で出場権を獲得した選手。何ら文句を言われる筋合いはない。むしろ、当初は選考基準に文句を言っていなかったくせに松島が全日本で優勝してから選考基準に後出しで文句を言い出す方がどうかしていると思います。
