I am a lefthander and I think that lefthanders has no advantage :D :D
Lefthanders mostly have a better forehand than righhanders but a weaker backhand
A advantage for lefthanders is that the opppenent notices that very late :D

hahahha thinking about this i remembered my teammate he's left handed with a great backhand than forehand hahah :)

I am about 1700 (USATT rating) with my right hand and 1200 with my left hand so, right hand must be better! But I play a lot more with my right hand. I wonder, if I played as much with my left hand, would my left hand be better? Perhaps the left hand is better! What about someone with a racket in each hand.

I probably could but I never do. I have a friend who is pretty good, who just keeps switching hands the whole time when he plays. He is right handed but he is about as good with his left hand as he is with his right hand. But he likes to show off so he will start with the left hand and switch to the right for a backhand and switch to the left for a backhand and he will just keep switching without much reason behind what he is doing and he is not doing it for reach. I have another friend and we will purposely hit with each other where we will change hands after each shot no matter what, for fun. But when we do that it is just a sort of game. In a real match I never switch hands even if I decided I am going to play someone with my left hand.

well I'm a righthand player :p but in our club, there's a leftie. I think he's the only leftie ^^
When I play against him, I have to countertopspin his sidespin-topspins which go to my backhand with my backhand. Not quite easy but I've got used to it. But he has problems to get back when he is far in his forehand and also his backhand has problems.
Lefties have an advantage because there is fewer of them and the righthanded-players have difficulties against them. But one you've got used to it and know where his/her weakpoints are (before he/she knows yours ^^) then you have an advantage.

So, my choice is neither ;P

I am a right hander. Lefthanders have a long backswing for their forehand stroke, not for right handers.

I don't think that kind of technical difference is specific to which hand you play with there's not a general rule that says left handers have longer backswings everyone has different style regardless

Im lefthanded but I play table tennis with my right hand. I guess I then have creativity AND good coordination? :D
I'm just so bothhanded I dont always know what to do but I write with my left hand so I guess I'm more lefthanded.

I just watched some reportage about Xu Xin a few weeks ago. Perhaps he is the best person to answer your question. We know that Xu Xin is left handed player, however, and actually, when he first play table tennis, he use right handed to play lol...

Until one of his coach discovered that his left hand has more power than his right hand, then the coach just purposely train him to use left hand to play.

Wow, cool.

I think the real issue is this. Lefties get to play against right handed players a lot. Right handed players do not get to play with left handed players as much. So lefties are used to the angles and side spins that right handed players give. But right handed players are not always used to the angles and side spins a left handed player will give. If you play with left handed players enough, this levels out.

But I notice, when lefties warm up with right handed players, a lot of the time they will go forehand to forehand from their backhand side to the right handed players forehand side. I try to get the lefties I play with to hit cross court from their forehand side and hit forehands from my backhand side to them as well. So we both get practice doing that. If a left handed player does things like that, they are developing different aspects of their game more quickly than a right handed player.

We used to do this alots too in the old day. It just because our school has only two tables, but our team got like 5-6 players. So, when our coach trains one guy, rest of us (all righty) will do the FH to FH drill cross court, four person on one table, use both FH and BH side.

But for the side spin, it just because that we had to think reversely when play with a opposite hand opponent. And we too get used to the righty way of thinking. And I'm not sure that how the brain developement on the lefty will affect on this or not. Maybe it does....
