Why restrain yourself? Imagine the knowledge you can gain from playing with the thing you (probably) hate playing against... Feel the balls that are great to hit with LP, experience where the struggles are, how spin reversal feels when you're doing it.

Just don't put so many hours in it that it hurts your normal game. Unless it's so addictive you want to play with it for real ;)

When I went to Korea, it seemed like there was a national law saying all women over 40 years of age must use Long Pips and a pushblocking / inverted hitting style.

So what did I do to get used to playing vs this crowd? (other than simply playing vs them a lot)

I built myself a similar OX LP bat and used it once a week for an hour.

That made my instincts much better.

I have a tendency to use LP. For now, I restrain myself from buying or trying the rubber. Don't know how long I can hold myself?! LOL

Has anyone else felt this before?

MODERN LPs HAVE TOO FAR SMALLER EFFECT TO THE PRODUCTS OF THE PAST.

Indonesia's is the world's only market you still can get real long pips from. Not ITTF approved though.

All the LP's of today do play far different way from the product of the past. You can't get as much deceptive power as compared to the original long pips as been in use before the year 2000. Yes, ITTF purposely moderated deceptive effect for long pips by imposing the restrictive ratio of 1.1

Need a touch of real lp? Try for the TIBHAR Super Grass, the most deceptive rubber ever.

Playing LP's is fun. I switched not too long ago myself even though my backhand is perfectly fine with inverted. I still attack with the long pips but the change of pace I can apply helps my game. Plus my first official game I played with the pips my opponent destroyed his blade when he lost so that's a good motivator to keep playing with them :ROFLMAO:

I gained a lot of feeling for the ball by playing with a long pips blade for a while. You can get one for maybe $50:

* Sanwei Fextra 5 Classic: ~$15 (nice 5-ply blade Koto top over Spruce & Ayous), 1291Hz, 79.0g, 5.85mm
* Backhand (red) Dawei 388D-1, 1.0mm or 0.8mm sponge (works better for me compared to OX because I was used to short pips): ~$15
* Forehand DHS H3 Neo: ~$20

My last shipment from AliExpress/BEO Store came to my door in Texas in 10 days !! (Note: I assemble myself, not sure whether BEO Store assembles for you)

I also really like the Yinhe 980XX: $65.00 from AliExpress/Playa Ping Pong, 231005 (5-ply Willow top). Used by Kim Song I. 1150Hz, 84.0g, 5.4mm. This is a larger head defender's blade, softer and slower than the above.

The thing is that with the new ball, long pips are easier to use on all kinds of blades including offensive ones. And you could always play an offensive style with pips, it all depends on the pips and your practice time. That said, most of the value with pips is 1) if it fits your playing style and 2) if you play events where people are not used to your playing style. If you only play at your club, once your playing partners understand what you do, it comes down to your playing speed, consistency and ball control, just like with any other rubber.

I did this quite recently. And although I had pretty good feeling with it and enjoyed it alot, I still didn’t go through with it.

Depending on how long you have been playing, the transition will be easier the earlier you start. I have been playing with inverted rubbers on my backhand 15+ years. So for me its going to be quite a big adjustment.

Not only technically, but me being a close to the table attacker, trying to play like Joo Sea-hyuk it was quite a big change in playstyle. And of course you don’t have to play like Joo Sea-hyuk when changing to long pimples. Thats just what I wanted to do.

So now I still use my LP bat sometimes when I don’t feel like playing competitive and have some fun.
