TLDR: I have a “second” BH grip that is theoretically wrong, but it feels solid and when I’ve tried it I’ve comfortably beaten players who usually always beat me (2000 NCTTA). Convince me to stay with my weird grip (or adjust it) or use a traditional grip.
Pertinent Details: I have an alternative very choked up BH grip where I get a callus on my palm near my middle finger if I use it for a few sessions. I generate power from levering with the bottom three fingers of my hand in addition to my thumb and forefinger.
This lets me generate a short, repeatable stroke that allows me to have a consistent close-to-the-table bh topspin. This in games makes me the first to attack in points, and it feels easier to execute as a gameplan.
I really want advice to make me switch to a “better” grip, but whenever I try to switch to a looser grip, I don’t actually produce consistent or higher quality BH shots bc I think I have bad bh technique and bh footwork. I am a FH dominant player, so I’m considering using this scuffed BH grip as a quick pressure tool and accepting the limited variation and maximum power that the “suboptimal” grip provides.
