I tried out Carl's "SLOW" Stiga Allround Evolution, which is supposed to be an ALL+ or so speed lass balde. Carl had Omega IV on the blade I think. I tried out the FH topspin to FH counter topspin. His blade was simply a beast in that shot as well as spinny openers. Great control and the pace I could make on counter topspins felt a LOT faster than ALL+ class!

My point with this is that some combinations of "Slower" blades and rubbers can actually have the desired "Fast" or "Heavy" properties you want. The "pundits" praise such a setup for control, but for different reasons you have more control. The flex of the blade, it's rebound energy, as well as the same properties of the suitable rubber can do some amazing things on a full, FAST bat impact that is timed well. That is also called "gears".

I have an Allround Evolution on its way and might have it today or tomorrow. I think this will work out just fine for me and it will be another "Special" setup to use, but instead of being a "Der_Echte" special, it will be called a "Carl's Deluxe". That kind sounds like a juicy cheeseburger.

Ah Der Echte I was already waiting for you to come up with your 'special'. Tried it out again today and even at our own gym I wasnt able to controll it... So maybe I will have to take something thats more controlleble. Something thats more allround and more forgiving but still allows me to play my attacking game... I even wanted to smash my bat and ppl in my club know me as a calm player that does not get anger even if Im losing big time but today at the training it was one of the first times I did not have fun when playing... And if I want to slap or smash a racket thats as exoensive as this one theres seriously something wrong.

Amayzed, perhaps more than you, I am hell on blades, it seems even more so on the expensive ones. Interesting enough, I have made and used and played with over a dozen "Der_Echte" 896 specials, some modified to be heavier, and have NEVER cracked one yet. I have gone through 3 TBS, 1 ALC, 4 OFF- to OFF class expensive NEXY blades, and who knows what else, but I never cracked or damaged a $15 blade yet.

Ironic.

Sometimes, we worry about equipment too much. It is great to get down and dirty and technical, but at the end of the day, if it is a suitable equipment for or preferred playing style, we will be able to use it well in a reasonable time. Certain combinations of blade and rubber are a lot more difficult than others and some combinations facilitate the shots to be easier to do. Many members have posted on this and they are each correct. The old school experienced crowd here at TTD seems to really know their stuff. Yogi, Tony, & Carl are 3 members who come to mind right away at the expense of not mentioning three dozen others.

On the other end, a lot of us who have played and tried out enough gear know our game and what works nice with what. We form our own preferences and desired equipment. We know what rubber will play like on what blade since we have hit enough.

Another side is there is no end to the learning in our sport. Just when we think we know it all or think we know enough, we discover something different or something that betrays our logic.

Reading your post a little more, you indicated you want to lean more in the direction of control. Ironically, that is the direction I went with on BH wing.... and I play that wing pretty well, yet decided upon a slower rubber more allround in performance that does nothing exceptionally well except make it easier for you to keep it on the table in many different shot situations.

You are too funny. I love it. You have made lots of great points here.

Can't wait to hear how you like the Carl Delux. By the way, that blade is really good with Omega IV. Those rubbers somehow play better on that blade than anything else I have felt on that blade. :) That being said, lots of good rubber combinations for any blade.

Which Omega IV? Elite, Europe, Pro or Asia?
might give it a try since the setup is not too expensive.

On the Stiga Allround Evolution I had Omega IV Pro for forehand and Omega IV Europe for backhand.

It plays really nicely. The only reason I switched to my current setup is, it was given to me by a friend who is a pro and sponsored by Butterfly. Hard to beat that. But, I may go back to the Allround Evolution even though this setup is good for me.
