I've been watching some old and recent mixed doubles matches recently, and something is always coming back. It seems "obvious" it's better to have an ambidextrous pair, I mean here a lefty + a righty. The lefty seems to have and edge when it comes to serve/receive+ giving more wide angle view to the righty, but I'm also wondering if it's better to have a male lefty or a female lefty.
I went back to Secrétin-Bergeret, Jacques was the lefty, world champion in 1977, the Gatien-Wang Xiaoming european champion in 1990, again Gatien was the lefty. 2022 Euro champions: Lebesson-Yuan Jianan, Lebesson being a lefty male. Tokyo OG 2021: both pairs had a lefty male in the finals. Paris 2024, again WCQ being the lefty.

Is it really a matter ? I see now the LSD-Kuai Man pair with a lefty female, and our french pair Gauzy-Pavade being the same. Is it going to be difficult for them to succeed ?

Going by past results, lefty male.

For XD, the female player is the target and her job is to shift the burden on her male partner as much as possible onto the opposing male player, but at the same time the lefty has to take on the burden of doing more step-around, so it's more ideal to have a lefty male to balance the two.
