I never had person powerplay .. As far as I remember it was a bit slower then Sweden Extra, very comfortable handle and incredible feeling and control. I would add also Waldner Allplay. It a bit faster then Dicon but also very good control. I think this two very good for beginers
Thanks! I had the waldner all indeed here, many people in our club use it and also the All+ version, but what's Interesting is that if I ask AI, it says the dicon is faster (OFF-) but you mention the opposite. I'd rather trust the human here haha I do wonder why that is, just a hallucination? :)

PG 7 for sure not OFF+. chinese brands like to write on every blade OFF+ or OFF++. I would say PG7 about OFF- speed
Yeah it's true that is always very nuanced with DHS ratings. I'll for now not add it to the list as it's 7 plies and I'm mostly looking for 5-ply blades since I wouldn't recommend PG7 to a beginner or low intermediate but yes we can definitely argue that it's OFF- instead of OFF :)

Sanwei Fextra 5: ALL+/OFF-
  • Feels maybe a bit faster than Yasaka Sweden Extra but slower than most other OFF- blades. Good handle.
Loki Kirin K5: ALL+
  • Great beginner blade. Soft touch, excellent looping, not too fast but not dead. I sold mine off to a friend who's starting out but I'm thinking about buying another to keep as a training blade. Dirt-cheap at around $13 USD but it didn't even need sanding.

I am not sure witch one faster since I had it 7-8 years ago and can be wrong :)

Thanks @golden_son !!

I have heard a lot about Fextra 7 but so much on 5, I will add it to the list :)

Loki Kirin K5 of course! I missed Loki totally haha The other day I actually had somebody from reddit who told me all about it (I have not tried it), and today I go and forget it 😂 will add thanks! :)

You’re going to need to add number of votes for each blade, and rank them thereafter. Without it, this will just turn into a large list of (mostly) popular blades.

If you’re narrowing the list down to ALL…OFF-, then there are a lot of blades that are too fast in my opinion. Andro Timber 5 OFF is one of them. I would say it is somewhere between OFF and OFF+.

Yasaka Sweden Extra (MLEO is better in my opinion, but also too fast for this list)
Sanwei Parla
Yinhe U2

Yes absolutely, the idea is to first collect the whole list.

Then remove the pure beginner blades that should be listed under your 'first blade' (I have an extra list for that already in one blogpost that I need to update) and also remove the ones that are too fast, and should fit under a 'third blade' (I'll make a blogpost on that one day). Then keep the ones that can fit as the your 'best second racket' and recommend them on the basis of hard vs soft racket with the why. This will fit nicely with the article on intermediate rubbers I wrote a while ago!

Ideally I'm done with this end of next week and I can publish the results, but for now just collecting to make sure I didn't miss anything :)

Thanks for the others, I will add!

Thanks @belllfador ! Since I'm not familiar with the Yinhe and Dr. NB ones, is it the case that you have personal experience with all of them? And in that case, what could you share on feeling, speed/control, and overall experience?

Also around the Nittaku blades (goriki and danshi), I did read that the danshi is significantly faster than the normal goriki and thus perhaps not in the def/all+ category? Perhaps you can clarify and also if you tried the violin or acoustic before (my fav all wood blades) how goriki feels in contrast to those! I guess it will be harder/stiffer due to the walnut :)
I have these blades and the speed rating is based on my personal comparison with other blades. Going into detail, every blade has weight and speed tolerance. Also, there is marketing misleading. Many blades are presented as Off or Def but in reality are All.

I write about 980, 980XX, and Dr. NB blades in this forum. At some point I will write some reviews. Basically the same impressions as other owners. Good blades for modern defense, mixed play style, pips and magic.

Goriki, Goriki Super Cut and Goriki Danshi have similar composition - 7 layers of walnut. They are thin blades (4.9 - 5.1mm), with a hard surface, but most importantly, they kill a lot of ball energy. Especially at low force hit. Danshi is presented as an offensive blade, but is not. It has a little thicker middle layers and overall thickness, but the difference between the other variants is just 0.1-0.2mm. Not enough to make it Off. People catch that misleading and Nittaku changes the story: Off means not the speed rating but the play style. It is designed for offense. At 108g 960Hz good luck with pure offensive play... The control and stability is superb compared with any other blade that I have. The linear gears. The drell time. It is a wonderful blade, but is not as fast as the classic Off blades.

I tried Acoustic once and remember it to be fast and springy. Good near the table, and not good away from it. Nice woody Off- to All+.

Goriki series blades are defensive blades

I agree with you with exeption for Goriki Super Drive.

Descreption of Danshi is misleading at best:

One more for the list - Spinlord Ultra Carbon Def 2021 - All+ to Off-.

Still it used by choppers. I don't know any player offensive style using this blade. Also OP mention this list of blades for beginners. Do you recommend for beginners blade cost $200? :)))

Neottec Voodoo Classic
Added thanks!
I recommed mine: Neottec Magic Control

Is the Voodoo flexible like some revies says? I was interested until i saw that description
Added the magic, is the Voodoo a good idea as an upgrade from beginner blades or too fast? Never tried it and reviews are mixed here.

Andro Kanter CO OFF, factory classified as OFF(duh). Lightest current carbon blade i know of. (68g)
Thanks! Will leave out for now as the list is meant to be a second step blade after the beginner blade, but good to know!

Yes correct, this is meant to be a list for beginners and specially for those who want to upgrade their first blade. I will be making a long blogpost on that soon :) At that price is hard to say is a good buy for low intermediates haha
