2016 Rio will have a new qualifying system!
You can download and read it form Here: http://www.teamusa.org/~/media/USA_...-QualificationSystem-FINAL-TableTennis-EN.pdf

Copy of London Olympics Table_Hein (2).jpg

Qualifying system for singles event is based on continental qualifying tournament and after that world ranking unlike London 2012 which was based on world ranking and after that the qualifying tournaments.

I have read it all but i still have a question: How many players per country can participate in qualifying events?

Also, what do you think about the new system?

Yes, you are right. They were a part of qualifying.

For London the players first qualify by the WR. And after that by continental tournaments. But for Rio the players first qualify by continental tournaments and after that by WR.

So for London if the two players already qualified by WR then the qualifying tournament just send the third player for the team event.
But for Rio the qualifying tournaments play the key role instead of WR.

why do they change so many rules so often?
I don't know why they change but this change is good.
The last qualifying system which was based mostly on the WR. WR depends on the results of the player and the amount of his activity. So if someone play so many tournaments, he will have more chance than someone who is a better player but have less activity.

With the new system, qualifying is mostly based on the qualifying tournaments. So the better player will have more chance than the lower level player which has more activity.

So i think the new system is more fair.
