See how unique NEXY is
- Spartacus, Hinoki, but feels different -

It's been a while since I wrote something here.
Actually, my study never gets stuck in something usual, so I have many things to share.
but it's not easy to keep on writing some how.

Any way, today, I'm going to introduce something that might get your eyes on.

If you have been reading my articles, you would know that I would keep on studying Carbon blade.
Generally, we have three different concepts about carbon material, which affects on blade design.

1. to add more speed.

2. wider sweet spot

3. dull feeling

1 and 2 are good factors.
But number 3 affects in the negative way.

So, when I designed hannibal, to reduce the dull feeling was my main subject to solve out.
I studied many kinds of woods for the middle layers, and I found out with something new, I can reduce the dull feeling.
And some people are saying that I'm using usual wood for middle layer that are used for other brands, but that's not true.
What I'm using is quite different one.
This middle layer is quite light but gives nice vibration, which makes suitable feeling, when dull carbon layer's feeling is mixed. Therefore, my Hannibal has good weight and feeling, even though I used hard carbon layer.

Since I released Hannibal, I thought I need to introduce something very unique, not only the the change of the middle layer, but the whole new style Hinoki carbon blade.

I've been playing with Hinoki carbon blades many years, but whenever I play with it, I felt 2% short from the one I like. Hinoki carbon blade is very ideal one, but that 2% makes me always come back to normal wooden blade.
So, what will be the reason for it, and how come I can overcome that?

The first probelm will be the one about feeling.
Carbon blade has normally artificial feeling, and you can not feel how hard you hit the ball with it.
And I could solve it with the different middle layer for hannibal.
But there was one more serious factor I need to solve out.
It was how I can give more spin on the hinoki carbon blade.

With Hannibal, I added more thickness onto the surface Hinoki wood.
I think my solutuion was also applied to Butterfly's other Hinoki carbon blades, too.
Because they also added more thickness onto the surface wood for their well known hinoki carbon blades.
For an example, primorac's surface used to be 0.5mm, but now it's 1.0mm.

Therefore, my Hannibal became totally new Hinoki carbon blade.

By the way, while I design Lissom, I found out that I can make deeper touch of the ball, if I make the surface supported by Ayous layer.
And that idea bacame a source for the different new blades.

Yes, the first one was Calix, which is about to be introduced to the market quite soon.
And here goes the second blade, Spartacus.

First, I will show you the image file of this blade.

spartacus.jpg

spartacus2.JPG

1. Spartacus has very unique composition.

kiso Hinoki - Ayous - some middle layer - Ayous - kiso hinoki

2. Spartacus is 5.7mm, very thin blade.
But it has deep touch and big spin, as well as good speed.

3. Spartacus has similiar concept as calix, but the actual products have quite different feelings.

Calix : I added Asian power onto the European feeling blade

Spartacus : I added European flexibility onto the Asian feeling and speed.

So, this Spartacus will compete with Calix, for sure.
And I'm very much interested in how they will compete each other.

From my expirience, I'm pretty sure those two blades will be one of the steady sellers world wide.

Now I'm playing with both blades, but still I'm not sure what I like more.
And I think lots of people will feel the same as me.
But those two blades are very very different from each other.
I hope to surprise many people with Calix and Spartacus.

Ayous - The core factor for the nexy's second wave
It's been a really long time since I wrote some articles about wood materials for the blades.
As a blade designer, I receive some letters suggesting what wood material composition would be good from people.
But in most cases, they don't consider the exact features I usually check per each wood composition.
It's not easy to guess out what would the the result of the specific composition of several wooden plies, but as for me, now I can describe out what it would be, with better exactitude than several years ago.
So, Nexy's blade designing process now relies much on thinking, rather than on actual sample tests.
Of course I prepare samples, and play for several weeks per each samples, but now the quantity and variety of these samples are much smaller then before.

Ok, so today, I will leak out one interesting information you might be interested in.
This is about "AYOUS".

Nexy's second wave started from the idea that ideal blades need to have big gap between the speed when it is used for blocking and the speed when it is making big powerful and spinny shots.
So, I tried many different blade compotions to get this goal done.
Among blades designed on the basis of this second wave goal (Lissom, Spear, Calix, Spartacus), Calix was a really amazing blade.
With Calix, you can feel the balls' deep touch inside the wooden surface through it's rubber, when you try to make a powerful shot.
On the contrary, when you block your opponent's powerful shot, then calix's 5mm thin blade absorb the impact of the opponent's ball.
This quality is coming from it's thin thickness and hard character together.
But if some other brand tries to make a blade very thin and hard, then it definately will have small spin, and bouncy feelings.
So, there must be a reason for Calix's conspicuous feature, how it can exert this big speed gap within it's 5mm thin thickness.

The key factor will be ayous.
I used ayous for three blades among those 4 blades designed by second wave idea.
Except for Spear, Lissom, Spartacus and Calix has Ayous.
And all three blades have Ayous layers in their second layer.
So, what is the character of Ayous?
What was the reason for those blades to have Ayous as the second layer?

AYOUS absorb the impact.
But it scatters away the first impact then grabs the ball into it as a point.
It's cearly different from LIMBA's way.
Limba embraces the ball using the whole face of the layer.
But Ayous does not embrace the ball as the whole space reacts to it.
Rather the ball goes into one point on the layer, but that point scatters away the power and energy through some space around.
So, Ayous has two different assets.
One is to absorb the power in one point,
and scatters away,
and the other one is to gather the energy again and focus on that one point.
So I can safely say that Ayous grabs the ball on one point, which is clearly different from most other wooden materials.

If I compare it, kiri, sprus, base wood...all those usual wooden materials have some space to absorb the power.
I can say that it's around 1cm around.

But Limba absorbs the impact the ball wiht the whole face.
I can say like it's about 5cm.

Whereas, ayous absorbs the power only on one point, if I try to put it on measurable scale, only on 1mm spot.
So, Ayous has a focus.
It absorbs and repel on the same spot.
And that was what I really liked for the sacond wave of nexy blade design.

I wanted to make a blade which can absorb deep, and return the ball with big power.
So, it meant that I need a material which can absorb and also rebound the ball right after receiving it deep into itself.
And it turned out that the ideal material can be Ayous, as I expected.

So, I used Ayous for three blades, Calix, Spartacus and Lissom.
Calix was peculiar more than other two blades, because it has very thin thickness.

By the way, now I'm working on another blade, with this Ayous layer.
This time, I plan to use thicker ayous than other three blades.
It's Ayous layer will be 1.5mm thick.
But if I use 1.5mm thick Ayous, then it will make the feeling dull, and the blade wegith will be too heavy.
And absorbing will be bigger.
So, that will not be what I wanted.
Therefore I will use burnt Ayous.
When Ayous was burnt, then it will be lighter and have more feeling.
So, that will be very ideal in many ways, then 0.7mm thick as I use now.

And this new blade will have carbon layer under that Ayous layer, which will make the fuction of Ayous bigger than Lissom's one.
So, Ayous's effect will be extraordinary in grabbing the ball deep, and rebound it with big spin and speed.
This blade will be called AMAZON.

Now I'm preparing two new blades considering environmental issues.
One will be called TUVALU and the other one will be called as AMAZON.

Regarding Tuvalu, I can give some hint as below.
This blade is for long pimple rubber players.
And it will have very different speed on both sides.
I inserted very new material, and I think this blade will surprise many people soon.
The final sample will come out soon.
And the name of this blade shows one Island country which is about to sink into the sea.

AMAZON is a blade using that ayous layers.
But this time, the thickness of Ayous will be almost twice of those other three blades, and also it will be burnt material.
So, I expect the actual fuction of this blade will be ideal.

Ok, that's for now.
I will try to write more about Amazon later on, with a picture.

Below is the Amazon's official explanation in nexy.com

It will be posted soon in the site.
I will update this page with pictures later.

Amazon

This is the forest we need to protect.
And this is the utmost natualization of a carbon blade.

Concerning Amazon, Nexy tried two folded challenges.
One is to maximize the effect of Ayous used beneath the surface wood,
by which you can feel how deep the Ayous layer can embrace the ball in itself.
Not like Calix, it's not that thin, rather thicker we can say,
hence it's basic character is focusing on accepting the ball deep.
But thick and burnt Ayous does not stay there only embracing.
It responds to the ball with big power.
That's the effect of Ayous used for the second layer.
It's twice thicker than Lissom and Calix, so you can imagine how big the power it may have.
But still very light, due to the burning process done only for this layer.

The second challenge will be about how much natural wooden feeling a carbon blade can have.
Amazon must have a natural feeling over the whole,
if Nexy wants people to think of the value of forest, in other word, nature.
Yes, we can make it with designing beautiful forest on it with ease,
but not easy to complete it with it's character and function.
So, lots of weeks were dedicated for this study,
how to maximize natural wooden feeling.
Now the final one has very prompt wooden feeling over the whole body,
and you will feel it whenever you embrace the ball with it.

This can be categorized from ALL + to OFF -.
But this kind of traditional categorization is against Nexy's idea about blade design.
Specially this Amazon is not easy to tell.
It has very soft and sophisticated short blocking,
and also powerful surprising top spin in the same time.

This is not a perfect blade.
Rather this can appeal for only 1% players, who dare to experience something eccentric.
It's character is not trustworthy.
This is we can see from those girls who are called coquets.
It never answers with steadfast trust.

So, we can safely say that this is not the blade Nexy wanted to make.
But it was born, after so many weeks of study and experiments,
and it has it's sure own value.

Yes, this is it.
Now you are to grab it and feel it,
and judge how peculiar it is.
Meet "AMAZON" in nexy.com.

THICKNESS of a wooden layer
It's very important issue, but not much known to the people, and I came to know that this is one of the source where lots of untrue presumption is coming about table tennis blade design.

When we work on a blade design, we need to know that wooden materials can be cut by 0.1mm difference. So, the outcome of the same wooden layers mixture can differ in a big variety, if we cut those layers in the different thicknesses, and that's the result of this article.

Specially, when the wood is very hard, the fuction of very thin layer, such as 0.5mm or thinner, will be very different from 1.0mm layer.
And that's one reason why STIGA is making their blades' surface that much thin these days, even though they know that those thin layers can be easily break off, when glued many times.

But when it is cut thin, then the actual function of those layers will become very different from the time when we test those 1.0mm or thicker than 1.0mm layer.

Some people might say that it's also possible, because when it is cut very thin, then effect of glue on each side will affect on the layer's character more, and yes, I think that's right.
But except of that glue effect, still the thinner layer of a hard wood is very different when we compare it with thicker layer, such as 1.0mm or thicker than that.

Let me get an example from one nexy blade.

When I designed SPEAR, I chose very thin surface wood, and that was one reason why SPEAR is different from other similiar blades. I tried to take only the slight function and feeling from the surface wood, and I wanted that surface wood to absorb the impact of the ball, and toss it to the second layer as soon as possible.
So, SPEAR has better feeling, because Limba material's character is limited as much as I wanted.
If I used thick limba wood for the surface of that blade, then the final feeling of that blade will be very dull and less attractive.

Let me have another example.
When I designed AMAZON, I used very thick AYOUS intentionally.
When Ayous is used thick, then the feeling of the wood is damp, and not bouncy enough.
So, I burnt them.
And that's why the final blade is not damp, and dull.
Rather it became loud and is acting against the ball directly.

So, we can not say what wood is good.
We can only say something about a wooden layer, when cut in such a thickness and jointed with several other wooden layers.

I want to give more information, but there are some I have to keep to me only, in order to make use of those informations for my next blades, so I will brief it out here.

(By the way, using English when I explain this kind of detailed things makes me nervous. I'm not sure whether I'm making sense or not with this limited language ability, so, please, understand that I'm limited much by this poor English ability. Thank you.)

Burning / Coloring
There are two ways to transform the blade's wooden layers.
One is to color it, and the other one is to burn it.
Coloring came to the market decades earlier, but burning is very new way.

When we use coloring process for the raw wood, then it's basic character changes.
Normally, it becomes a little more stiffer, and tougher.
("Tougher" means that is becomes little more durable and will resist the impact on the wood with more power.... not easy to express... but you can think of "tenacity", I think)

But this coloring does not change the character of the wood with big difference.
Just imaging what will happen if you soak cotton wool into watercolor and dry out.
Then the cotton will will become stiffer and more rigid.
It happens the same way for the wooden material, too.

Regarding burning process, it changes the basic character with much bigger differences.
It becomes lighter, bouncier, and makes bigger sound when impact is done against.
But it can be weaker than the raw material.... I think the right word for this expression will be "weaker tensil strength"
It's more powerful than when not burnt, but it is fragile when tugged from different sides.

(But this is only general explanation. I think some wood can not be weaker in "tensil strength", but I could not test them all.)

Any way, when we burn the blade, then the actual result will make the blade lighter, and thinner.
And the blade makes the sound of the ball's impact bigger.

I used burning porcess for CALIX, and it becomes still powerful, even though it is only 4.9mm thin.
And I will also burn CALIX II and another new blade QABOD, because I liked the result of burning process of CALIX.

But still there are so many and more things to experiment.
I don't know what will happen if I use coloring and burning together.
So, some time later, I can try this, too.

Ok, this is a little bit brief report, but I hole still you can learn something.
Take care~!!

128YinYnag's review for "AMAZON"

I agree with Nexy's post above. This was very similar to my impression of the blade, because I found that it had a surprising amount of power for a blade that was so light (mine is 79g).

Ok, so I am finally getting to write the full review. my apologies for the delay, as I had a very busy weekend. So here it is:

Rubbers Used: BH = Tenergy 05 / FH = T05 and Barracuda
Weight: Blade Weight is 79g, and was not too head-heavy because of its light weight.
Sound & Feel: This blade has a hollow sound and an above-average sweet spot compared to other carbon blades. Even my partner noticed the different sound and how it stood out from other blades. However, this sort of helps you know when your hit is done properly, since the sweet spot vibrates a bit and has that hollow sound, so it serves as a mental "marker" for your stroke, but the sound and vibration did not bother me. The vibration is noticeable, but not excessive. I prefer a little vibration anyway. I remember when I played with Innerforce ZLC, I hated that it was so "numb" with no vibrations or anything, but this is a matter of opinion for the player.

I agree with Nexy's statement that this blade is quite "different." What I mean is that it feels number and slower with short shots, but open up with vibration and power when driving/looping. I found thsi quite interesting and a little non-linear, but in a good way, because that means it is more forgiving in the short game than other blades that are fast all the time. So I felt confidence in handling the short game with great placement and angles, and knew that the blade would flex and provide more power when I stepped away.
FH Hit, Block & Drive: Close to the table is where this blade can really dominate the game. I felt that it was rigid and fast enough to do quick, controlled block and hits, while still having the flexibility and feel to drop back and loop, even close to the table. So I would do some set ups with a hard-angle block and then do a put-away loop. Plus, the light weight allows for quick maneuvers.
Short Game (Flicks, Flips, Touch Blocks, etc.): The light weight allows for great wrist movement, which allowed me to get some great flicks and flips off of underspin serves. Touch blocks work nicely because the vibration becomes useful when doing these shots.
BH Drives & Hits: In my opinion, this is the blade's biggest weakness. Even with Tenergy 05, I still felt a lack of speed from the BH. This is not to say that I could not hit spinny and fast shots, they just had to stay close. The moment I stepped away (about 3-5 ft.), I had to use all of my power in my BH to keep the same speed, and past 7ft. it was basically impossible to counterhit or counterloop with the BH.
FH Loop: This blade is better for driving close to the table, but better for looping away from the table. I think this is due to the way it flexes substantially with greater power, so I could still loop with my FH 7 ft. away because my FH loop away from the table is a longer stroke and the Amazon flexed enough to keep the ball on the blade the whole way through it, so I had no trouble looping. However, I do not think thsi would be the case if I was using a traditional rubber. The fact that I used Tensor Rubbers made a difference in what this blade was capable of.
BH Loop: Pretty much the same as mentioned above with the BH drive/hit. I found that I had better luck away from the table if I focused more on spin and less on speed, so that the arc would be greater and the ball would clear the distance. I think the BH will be a little problematic for people using traditional non-tensor rubbers like Sriver, Hurricane, etc.
Serves: Nothing unusual here. Performs fine.
Chops: I am not a defensive player, so this is not something I explored. However, I do not think it would work very well because of how it flexes when you give it power, so that might hinder a Defensive player's chopping when they get away from the table.
My Personal Reccomendations & Opinions:
If you are an offensive player like me, then this blade will work well for looping while still being stiff enough to block well. It has good versatility fro the offensive player, BUT YOU MUST USE HIGH-END TENSORS, AND HAVE A VERY FAST TENSOR FOR THE BH. If you use traditional offensive rubbers, then the overall combo will be more like ALL/ALL+. As for the BH, I found T05 to not be enough, and I would recommend T64 or something faster than it. Also, I found the Barracuda to be better on the FH than T05, but that is a personal opinion...
However, as I stated in the beginning, this was a 79g blade I was using, and getting a heavier blade will certainly add more power, but I can say that I have never played with a ~80g blade that had as much power as this one, so that counts for something in my book.

Overall: I like the blade, and was quite surprised with it, since I can say it is unique and different from other blades I've played. I really like the light-weight, so I will definitely keep this one for now, and it will serve as the blade I use for comparing other light-weight blades that I play with in the future. I think Nexy has gotten quite clever with this blade andit has more versatility than most blades.

Whew! All done! Thanks to Nexy and BH-MAN for allowing me to test the Amazon. My apologies if this review is super-lengthy, but hopefully it will be informative

- Jeremy

- I brought this review, because this explains much about Amazon.
Regarding back hand swing, I think Jeremy will find better way soon, because the general feedbacks from Korean market are not saying this weakness.
What I want to say is that AMAZON is very unique and different in many ways, but it has big value, and you will find it soon, once you start to play with it.

TUVALU
Tuvalu - this is an island sinking.

2_1_~1.JPG

8_1_~1.JPG

2007090701054_3.jpg

We know our earth is one environment.
But we don't care it with one mind.
Some people have got wealth from it already,
and they ask under-developed countires should protect it,
as they do now.
That's why we still see this island is sinking.

tuvalu-exam1-.jpg

This picture shows why people don't take it serious.
The danger from ruined envirnment does not increase at high speed in the beginning,
and when it becomes real serious, then we can not stop it with easiness.

tuvalu-exam2-.jpg

But while we use our environment without taking care of it,
we make profit, and the danger seems not big,
so we focus on making profit.

We know our sons and daughters, or some people after us will meet the disaster.
We know some people outside of our country will pay for it.
But we don't care much, because all these problems are not for us.

Now European people, and American people are criticizing Chinese factories,
but we need to know that they are only trying to catch up with people,
who already got the profits from ruining enviroment long ago.

So, this is a crime of developed countries,
and remaining alive in many under-developed countries,
but no particular one has a right or a real duty to stop this.

IMG_4586.jpg

IMG_4602.jpg

Nexy named one new blade after this sinking island, Tuvalu.
This island will not remain as a lawful country very soon,
but people play with this blade "Tuvalu" will remember this island.

Nexy has been working on many long-pimple blades.

Musiro produced by Tibhar was designed by NEXY,
which was peculiar with it's construction.
I think this blade was the first blade using only one carbon layer at the 1/3 location.
So, with Musiro, Nexy tried to make different speed rate on both sides, 6 years ago.

With Tuvalu, all those 6 years' study became a big finalle.
People will understand this blade well, if I reveal the structure of it.

Ebony - will give powerful forehand side
Ayous - will catch the ball deep inside
carbon - will add power on forehand side
balsa - starts to turn from powerful forehand to grabbing back hand long pimple side
special material - is inserted to loosen the power of carbon
balsa - will maxmise the effect of the long pimple rubber
ayous - will grab the ball deep
white ash - will give good wobling effect

So, this is it.
Just watch how it looks.

IMG_4591.jpg

IMG_4593.jpg

IMG_4605.jpg

side-tuvalu.jpg

Concerning the white line between two balsa layers,
I studied what will be possible to be inserted between balsa layers,
holding two slippery balsa layers tight, and loosening the power from carbon layer.

It was not easy.
I used many different types of sponges first.
But all of them could not be durable after some weeks of testing,
because they turn solid, and after many impacts of the blade,
it can not stick to balsa layers, and the blade breaks off.

So, it took almost more than 1 year.

Any way, now the final result is really amazing.
Players are saying that this blade has the shortest trajectroy from back hand side.

This is it.
Just meet the blade in nexy.com soon.

Dear readers,

I have a news for you.
NEXY found good friends in USA, and opened a new door.
William Waltrip has been sincere friend for me for long years in Korea, and now he is running new NEXY business in America with Sutanit Tangyingyang.

I trust both of them, and believe that they will run NEXY business with trust and detailed care.

And their web site will help people to reduce the cost for delivery.
Direct delivery from Korea to USA and Canada costs a lot, and that have been a main issue for many people in America, who love to buy NEXY.

Please, welcome my friends Willam and Sutanit, and have a look at their new web site www.nexyusa.com .

With thanks, Oscar from Korea.

NEXY’S THREE-STAR BALL

-nexyball2.jpg

NEXY has released a new ball, and it was not developed overnight.

It took more than 2-years to investigate the properties that made a “good ball,” and finally we discovered a recipe to make a “great ball.”

If players look for a real value, we are quite sure that this ball will lead the market!

Key Features of the new NEXY ball:

Strong and durable. Many players are still using NEXY balls, even after 3-months of playing. The NEXY ball can withstand months of hard-hitting. => Some of the other balls cannot!

High, accurate bounce. Players can expect where the NEXY ball will come, because it has a steady and stable movement. The NEXY ball has higher bounce, which allows a vivid feeling during play. => Some of the other balls have lower bounce, and some actually have an irregular bounce, which distracts players.

Responsive. Responds quickly and positively to player’s strokes within expectable range. => Some of the other balls seem to absorb power and do not reach high speeds, even when exerting maximum power — this can cause a player to completely lose interest in playing.

Trustworthy movement. Enjoyable to play with — not too light, not too slow. => Some of the other balls are ultra-light and feel like a toy ball, and some are way too slow and heavy, which robs players of their enjoyment.

Seam vs. Seamless Ball.

The new NEXY ball has no seam.
I’d like to explain the different properties between seamless balls and balls with a seam.
You may discover why the NEXY ball is so good.

A Ball with a Seam.

Plastic_seam_-.jpg

When a ball with a seam is dissected, it is obvious that one part is thicker than the other.
This proves that the two halves were joined together.

If you analyze the thicker part, you would notice a small triangle that is not an isosceles triangle.

Therefore it cannot have an equal weight balance between the two hemispheres.

plastic2_-.jpg

A careful comparison between a seamed ball and a NEXY seamless ball reveals an obvious difference.
Many people believe that a round ball will have an expectable, stable bounce and movement.

However, the bounce is not only due to the external shape, but also the internal shape and the weight balance from inside.

Look inside the NEXY ball.

nexy_no_seam_-.jpg

It has no seam!

Therefore, it has no weight problem, and the ball’s movement is stable and consistent.

Plastic balls have less elasticity, so when there is seam, the impact on the ball stops around the seam, because that part is thicker.

As a result, the thicker part has different bounce response, and the ball reacts and bounces differently depending upon where the ball impacts.
A plastic ball with a seam ball will also bounce differently according to where it hits the table.

In addition, it can easily break! These phenomena were not a factor with celluloid balls, because they are more elastic; so, even the seamed part did not alter the bounce and movement.

But with PVC material, the seam greatly influences the final movement and durability.

In conclusion, the seam generates irregular movements, inconsistent bounces, and is weaker than the seamless ball.

How does NEXY compare to other seamless balls?

Are all the balls made at the same factory the same?
No!

Each ball has its own recipe, and each brand has its own equity for that recipe. Just like rubbers, which are different even if manufactured at the same facility.

NEXY wanted to create a ball that is as close as possible to the Celluloid ball — not one that felt too light and fragile like a toy ball. We knew that players had an expected dynamic range for balls.

So, NEXY designed a ball that responds to the player’s power for each and every stroke.
If a player hits with more power, the ball will fly at a higher speed; if a player hits with less power, the ball will fly a slower speed.

For example, some of the other brand’s balls have a speed and spin limit, which as a result, limits the player’s playing ability.

But NEXY allows players to feel that they are playing with the right power, because the NEXY ball does not have any a built-in limit.

Meet this new ball, and enjoy NEXY’s latest triumph!

NEXY is proud to introduce CHEDECH!

The name comes from the Hebrew word meaning, “righteousness.”
People think righteousness is a matter of each person’s rightful share, but it’s also related to the social system and structure.

Righteousness should run through society, pressing what is right along the way.
With this in mind, NEXY envisioned Chedech as a wheel spinning its way through human history on the blade.

CHEDECH is NEXY’s 4th generation blade.
When NEXY released Kanaph, we had unique ideas about what would be good for poly ball play.
We called Kanaph a 3.5th generation blade because it was not the final answer! CHEDECH is our first 4th generation blade.

What is the functional uniqueness for 4th generation blades?

1. More of a focus on “point” than “plane.”
This means that 4th generation blades will have a deeper impact, and the power can be felt converging on a certain point.
The blade will not respond as a whole plane, thus vibration will decrease.

2. Deeper impact.
In general, the “depth” of the impact point will be deeper than the second and third generation blades.
The poly ball is bigger and has a heavier feeling, so the blade has to support the impact with a stronger force.
Therefore, the 4th generation blades will have more depth allowing the blade’s total force to support that point.

3. Wider sweet spot.
The poly ball is bigger and feels heavier, so players will need a more stable stroke.

4. Greater emphasis on speed.
The new poly ball era often requires more speed.
So, the element of speed is a higher priority than previous generations

(NEXY tried to converge on a certain area for all 3rd generation blades, not trying to scatter too many different speeds and features as 2nd generation).

In addition to the 4-points listed above, CHEDECH features an additional factor.
Previous generations of NEXY blades had three factors, i.e., “point,” “plane,” and “line.” But unlike “point” and “plane,” the factor “line” is mainly related to the surface wood.

NEXY has used Hinoki wood for many blades’ surfaces, because Hinoki excels in the feature of “line.” “Line” means the power to hold the ball and make the ball stick onto the surface.
When you play with Hinoki you can feel the ball is moving on the surface, as it feels sticky, and I call that “line” because the blade surface holds the ball and the ball rolls on one line on the blade.

This rolling feeling is a very important factor, and NEXY cherishes that feature. Many NEXY blades were made with a Hinoki top ply.

In order to welcome the “poly ball age,” NEXY is now proudly introducing a unique surface wood, which has a similar feeling as Hinoki, but slightly different.
It has less stickiness, which allows better control and an easier stroke.
However, it has a lot of power, with more durability than Hinoki wood. Hinoki has a very sophisticated character.

When it is cut thin, it does not embrace the ball with good control, so it needs to be cut thicker than typical surface wood layers.
But, when the ply is cut thick, it becomes too soft and there is a loss of speed.

So, it’s vital to find a right thickness per each blade design.
Yet, when we consider the poly ball’s heavier feeling and larger size, it’s not easy to make a good Hinoki surface blade.

CHEDECH uses Wenge wood in order to emulate the “line” characteristic of Hinoki when using a celluloid ball without sacrificing speed.

Alas! Meet NEXY’s new generation blade — CHEDECH!

It has a new surface and character.
NEXY vows to continue designing equipment to satisfy players around the world with unstoppable study and experimentation, supported by many years of experience.

And here goes CHEDECH to you.

AKRASIA

The sport of table tennis entered a new age when poly balls were released into the market. To meet the changing demands, Nexy designed a new wave of blades called the ?4th Generation.? KANAPH was released in between the 3rd and 4th Generations and featured several points that distinguished it from previous models. One of the key features was a wider sweet spot that was attained by a larger head size. However, one of the latest 4th Generation blades, AKRASIA, has a more compact head design. So, what are some of the other features that are unique to the most recent generation of Nexy blades?

Nexy still believes that a larger sweet spot is key for poly ball play, and a larger head certainly increases the sweet spot. But a bigger blade is also heavier, which exponentially increases in weight when large rubbers are affixed on both sides. Therefore, it?s important to find a optimal balance between head size and weight.

When I began designing AKRASIA, I started with a larger head size, but with the aim of making it the fastest blade in the world. Not surprisingly, I had a few challenges I needed to overcome! Firstly, the blade needed to be solid and not too thin, but keeping the weight down seemed impossible, and I worried that this was becoming an unreachable project. Secondly, If the blade was super fast, it might also be super bouncy, which would not allow the ball to stay on the racket long enough to generate good spin. These were difficult problems I needed to solve. I knew how to make a fast blade, and I knew how to make a spinny blade. My challenge was making a blade that was both fast and spinny! Also, if the blade was very fast, players would have trouble controlling the direction of the ball, especially when blocking the opponent?s attacking shots. So, my homework assignment for AKRASIA was three-fold ? I needed to design a really fast blade that was not too heavy, not too bouncy, and equipped with good control.

The second and third problems (speed vs. spin and control) were easily solved. I designed AKRASIA with a big ?dual speed? system. It can be extravagantly fast when used for attacking, yet feel slow and easily controllable when used for blocking and serving. However, solving the first problem (weight) was not so easy to figure out.

One of the unique qualities of Nexy is that all products go through an extensive design and development process, and AKRASIA was no exception! When I tried to find the optimum balance between weight and sweet spot the answer came from the thickness. When a blade is thick with a smaller head size, the sweet spot is maintained and vibration is low. I tested many different sizes and finally decided to make AKRASIA even smaller than the 3rd Generation blades. It?s not a huge difference and is still larger than most compact head designs, though I think experienced players will take notice. Still, the blade is strong with a large sweet spot, and it gives a trustworthy feeling without much vibration. This is also accomplished by the insertion of a special high quality composite material.

AKRASIA is a very, very fast blade. Nexy has never indicated speed data ratings, but I believe Nexy has met the challenge and succeeded in creating the fastest legal blade in the world. This has been attainable through Nexy?s ?dual speed? system, which is perfectly suited for AKRASIA. This functional feature provides a great advantage in fulfilling the extreme harmony between weight, speed, and spin ? in all positions and with all intentions.
Please note, this system is not an ideal feature for all players and for all blades. AKRASIA is designed for players who desire extreme attacking power with quick conversion to safe blocking. Such a player will go crazy over this mighty beast!

It is also well-suited to help beginners learn the correct angle for fast looping by aiming at the ?point? feature, which allows players to feel the ball?s impact as a sharp point. The spot where the ball?s impact is felt on the blade is deeper than the average attacking blade. And, this will help players realize the proper swing movement when making a strong attacking shot. As a result, AKRASIA could become a beginner?s personal trainer.

Before closing this blade description, I want to leave one final note about the name ?AKRASIA.? People often dream of happiness, but joy is not always easy to obtain. That?s why players sweat while training. This blade seems ideal, because it all began as special request from several players. And, as a designer, I honestly can say that this blade is a real ?AKRASIA.? Isn?t this freakishly fast blade too attractive to ignore?

ZEALOT

Nexy uniquely writes detailed articles for each blade. You may be curious to know why other brands don’t provide such comprehensive descriptions about their blades. There could be many answers, but I think the most obvious and simple answer is that they cannot spend the time eulogizing upon the release of each new product. Most brands produce without focusing on creating something different from previous models, so they cannot repeat the same explanation for each blade. Even though they might be fortunate enough to produce something better than before, they still cannot claim that their new blades are better because that would upset customers who bought previous models.

As for Nexy, I do not try to upgrade, but rather I try to focus on what I want to make at that specific moment. So, most blades are somewhat different from previous models. Nevertheless, I strongly believe that Nexy has grown and improved, especially with ZEALOT, which represents a huge step forward. This blade features all the good things Nexy has been endeavoring to equip in its blades, and I have some information to share to illustrate all the upgraded features.

One of the differences between the 3rd and 4th Generation blades is that the balance point of features has shifted. Speed is now more emphasized. With celluloid balls, Nexy did not focus as much on speed. When you compare the 3rd and 4th Generations you will notice that 4th Generation blades are generally a little faster without being thicker. In this way, Nexy has certainly advanced. The easiest way to add speed is to make the blade thicker, but Nexy’s 4th Generation will not be that way, except for AKRASIA, which has been created by players’ request, not from the designer’s own concept.

The second feature is “point” factor. Nexy’s latest designs focus on this element, which allows players to feel the impact of the ball on one focused point and at a specific depth, not on the whole plane. When I designed ZEALOT, I tried to understand that this “point” factor is not only a sharp point on the blade, but also a wider area that allows players to feel the entire impact zone of the ball. Still, it’s not the whole blade, but a specific area that we can call “point.” I previously mentioned this concept during the release of CHEDECH, because I thought it was important to understand that the “point” factor is wider than the 3rd Generation for optimal use with the poly ball. For the 3rd Generation, I tried to design a blade with very sharp point factor, almost like a needle’s point. But with the 4th Generation, I made this point wider to cover the entire impact zone of the ball.

This concept inspired me to find new surface woods. I used Wenge wood for CHEDECH and a special secret wood for ZEALOT. This unique and mysterious top ply gives players a wider point area on the blade, which allows a more stable stroke per each movement without sacrificing speed. It is very stable at all positions. I am sure that ZEALOT will raise Nexy to a new level as a globally successful brand.

The name “ZEALOT” comes from the Jewish people, who resisted Roman tyranny. We can relate this word to “Passion,” which is the very core aspect for Nexy to be Nexy. And now, with this blade ZEALOT, people will see Nexy’s true spirit, which will never yield to any temptation or threat!

Zealot will be released in about 2 weeks.

Mr Moon, the head of nexy.confirmed it on another forum

It's released already :D
I ordered one FL, in the 80-85gr range (would have prefered the 85-90gr range but not available). Can't wait to test it.
