WTT CS Montpellier 2025
WS F
Winter 3-4 Least-Dumb WYD (3) (8, 10, -5, -4, 6, -10, -9)

Best chance for Winter to win a CS title and prove to the DTTB big shots but denied by WYD.

The big question now is how long will this style work? Her body language and the dialog with Boros during the TO at 7:8 of G7 indicates her anti was already hard-countered by WYD.

Not actually as DHK didn't expect to run this deep here and it showed that anti is helpless with a little brainstorming, just like JCH against Hashimoto.

https://www.tabletennisdaily.com/fo...montpellier-2025-10-28-11-2.38204/post-548138
Convenient to forget what just happened at China Smash 2025 just 4 weeks ago, and the close matches at ETTTC 2025 against Fu Yu and Surjan, even the one against Tianer Yu was close for the first 2 games. Against JNT players, her record is 1W6L as projected and the only win was 3-2 over Akae. Against CNT players (1W3L), an injured CXT was the only one she has defeated. If WYD with such a poor record against combination players could beat her without special training, consider the others. 2 KNT (KNY and LEH, the latter may not make LA28) and 2 TPE players (1 old and 1 young, not certain if they will make LA28) are the only other East Asian players she beat.

WD R16
Winter/WY 0-3 Sawettabut/Paranang (-14, -10, -8)
The score might not reflect it, but the Thai pair took the German pair apart, coming from behind in all 3 games. Both Sawettabut and Paranang ate anti for breakfast...

It was no fluke that they beat IND and PRK at Asian Games 2022 (well-deserved bronze) and FRA at Paris 2024. They know how to handle pips/anti...

https://www.tabletennisdaily.com/fo...ns-japan-2025-7-11-aug-2025.35819/post-534432
Winter joined the Dark Side because "many very good Asian players have problems...". How many of them has she beaten thus far? In comparison, how many for her WD partner WY? The fact remains that unless the quota is increased, her odds for even WD are not good, let alone WS.

extremely well played by Sabine
she started the year with a goal that she announce publicly and she aced that.
and we have 2 months to go and she is playing some of the best table tennis she has ever played in her career.

It is a luxury to be playing table tennis for the love and fun as the only priority, this is something that tieba users will struggle to understand. The freedom is luxury and Sabine has this luxury!

50 -- 50. Not so bad, not so good.
Yes, Sabine lost much of her left hand, and then she enhanced her right hand twice as strong. Antispin is much like voluntary amputation of your arm. Make your own choice 🤔

Winter: But at the moment, the problem is she serves, I make this, *can't make out*, I make this and she (?) *can't make out*. That's the problem... (then she became irritated after Boros' instruction/advice)

Seems that using Antispin is like using performing-enhancing drugs, minus the drugs. It's a clever move by Winter, as players that have never trained against it won't know what to do (Szocs). How many players are going to put in those training hours retrospectively just in case they meet one player in a tournament? I wonder how it would go if everyone changed to Antispin. My guess is it would become less exciting to watch and the rules would be quickly changed.

With that said, I play mostly for fun, and when I meet pips or anti-, I tend to opt for a "rest" after about 15 minutes.

Still the same thing. Step around and cover the wide FH like that at 36 years old under the immense pressure of the Olympics sounds like a plan.

(Winter's killing spree is thanks to the Indian women's table tennis)
https://tieba.baidu.com/p/10180146058

(Watching Shan Xiaona's live stream, I learned that Winter trained incredibly hard, but still didn't make the Olympic team, which I find quite a pity. Given her physical attributes, the change in rubber, and the relatively low competition in Germany, it would be a great opportunity for her to qualify for Los Angeles, bringing some new energy to women's table tennis)

(The competition in Germany is already quite fierce. Kaufmann will definitely make Los Angeles. Germany has also said it wants to cultivate young talent. If Han Ying hadn't been injured, she would have had a singles spot for Paris. She was still WR10 in 2023. Mittelham is also very good and energetic in her rallies. It remains to be seen if Winter can keep up until 2028. She'll be 36 in 2028, but her physical condition is really OK)

(Winter switched to anti because her FH was extremely strong and her backhand extremely weak. So even if her opponent manages to break through her BH anti, Winter can still transform into a female RSM and start counterlooping. Moreover, she can twiddle, attack from all four sides [UFO shot], and chop with anti)

(Winter's biggest problem is her age. If she were around 20 years old now, she could definitely make a name for herself in the world of table tennis. Unfortunately, she is already 33. Those who can't beat her can wait a few years until she gets old.)

(It was mainly Ni Xialian and her husband who gave her the advice. Grandma Ni is top-notch in quirky rubber)

(Winter is truly inspiring. She already played the WTTC in 2010, received a P card for Rio in 2016, and also achieved some success at the German and European Championships. However, after all that hard work, even younger players like Solja has retired for years, and Winter has yet to make the Olympics. For Paris Olympics, Germany's top three players were all injured, and yet they preferred to use lower-ranked players like Kaufmann and Wan Yuan as the P card rather than select her.
Even in her thirties, when she was almost eliminated by the association, she was still willing to change her technique and switch to antispin rubber. Her achievements this year can be seen as a reward from heaven

(It feels like Winter's playing style is the answer to the shakehand quirky-rubber style)

(Ultimately lost due to the absolute quality of her FH; Winter was still limited by this soft 5-ply)

(There's also the natural disadvantage of being taller, making her vulnerable to being squeezed in the middle. Also, she suffered too many receive errors in the sixth game; if she had made just one less, the match might have ended much earlier. Her mentality also faltered on crucial points in the deciding game. However, for Winter, reaching the final is already a significant achievement. Hopefully, she and the other players using special rubbers will achieve even better results in future matches)

Curious, what did she need to prove to DTTB bigshots? I love the way you make up narratives that are completely unsupported by anything other than delusional Tieba users.

It's not true that they( top players or players like Bernie) have never trained against it, a lot comes down to the level of consistency of the anti=spin user and the ability of the user to handle heavy topspin with it, neither of which are trivial and require a lot of practice against high quality loops. Also very important is the ability of the anti-spin user to attack when the ball slows down this is where Sabine's choice really works. I suspect if she had been trained as a single side penholder her results would have been better than they ended up being, but it is hard to take risks as a professional unless your back is pushed to the wall because you will keep second guessing yourself until you have nothing to lose.

Here is the kind of video that used to be popular about Sabine in the 2010s, she has others that show her incredible athleticism.

Now that Montpellier is finished, an interesting picture emerges with respect to Sabine's matches. Since Sabine's loss to Han Ying at the 2025 Euro Top 16 in February, she has not lost to *any* European player. In fact she has only lost to top Chinese and Japanese players. She has beaten the 3 S Korean players she's faced: Lee Eunhye, Kim Nayeong, and Shin Yubin. Additionally, she has beaten Kaho Akae of Japan and Chen Xingtong of China. She will jump up to WR#16 on Tuesday when the rankings are updated and will officially be the highest ranked European woman. What a truly remarkable player!

It's quite simple to block with anti spin actually.
There are two things that play in winter's favour
1- it's women, so the loops are less powerful than men
2- she is playing wtt where all the opponents do is loop.
It's like they are walking right into the anti spin trap.

In an amateur club scenario where people don't loop much it sort of nullifies the advantages of anti spin.

Everything is level relative in table tennis. You can share your video of your blocks with anti-spin and inverted to make your point.

I don't post videos and I don't play anti.
Just tried it a few times.
If you want to see an amateur blocking with anti you can look Andrea aschi videos.

here's another guy who plays a similar style.
you can see he barely misses a block.... the anti rubber is so slow it's practically impossible to miss the table.

I kinda wanted to try this style.... but it's too boring honestly.
you just pass the ball and wait for the opponent to make a mistake.
I ended up going back to inverted and throwing bh bombs.

with her style shes gonna get into WR20 not 50
If it were that easy, the WR should've been flooded with anti players. Anti is actually the hardest combination style to survive (let alone thrive) on the world stage now.
Your comment at the time is understandable. In fact, I didn't think she'd make it to top 20 when she made the switch to anti. But I'm happy to be pleasantly surprised.

Would it be fair to say she far exceeded your expectations?
