Should I Upgrade?

Hi all,

I was just wondering if you lot can give me some advice. I currently use the Timo Boll Spirit and have been debating whether to upgrade to the Timo Boll ALC as it is supppose to be a "upgrade" in terms of Tenergy rubbers, weight etc. Although i have not tried a Boll ALC yet personally (i hope to soon) should I risk it and go with it or just stay with the spirit.

to be honest with you, the difference is not that great.

Every blade is different, so maybe a Timo Boll Spirit plays a little different that Timo Boll Alc or other Timo Boll Spirit.
Both blades looks exactly the same (except for the handle), i'm not sure if there's a real difference between those two blades.
I would't buy the TB ALC, IMO it's the same (or almost the same) but a little more expensive.
Are you ok with the Timo Boll Spirit or there's something you don't like about it?

Something here sounds totally wrong. How is a TB ALC an "'upgrade' in terms of Tenergy rubbers"!!!!!!

What does that mean? How is a blade an upgrade in terms of rubbers?

A Timo Boll Spirit and a Timo Boll ALC are exactly the same except for the handle. Aside from the different handle, there really is not any difference. So it is not an upgrade. And in a sense there is no such thing as an upgrade from a TB Spirit. TB Spirit, Viscaria, TB ALC, ZJK ALC are actually all 97 percent the same blade. And they are some of the best blades out there. There really isn't a such thing as an upgrade from any one of them.

And if you chose any one of them, you could put any version of Tenergy rubbers, or any other rubbers for that matter, on the blade.

So, what would your upgrade actually be for? Please explain more clearly what you were lead to believe about the difference between these two blades. Or the rubbers. Or whatever is supposed to be the upgrade. Perhaps I am just not understanding what you actually meant.

But if it is actually that you thought that the TB ALC was somehow better than the Spirit, it is not. However, if you liked the TB ALC handle better than the Spirit handle, that would be a fine reason to get one.

What he probably means is that people have said that there is a slight handle heavy balance in the Boll ALC vs the head heavy balance of the Boll Spirit which some people say makes the Boll ALC easier to use with heavier rubbers like Tenergy. It is a relatively mild thing and not enough IMO to buy a new blade, but it might be if one tests the blade that one wants to switch to and likes it. Some people say that Boll ALC has a coating that makes it slightly harder than a Boll Spirit on average but the Butterfly spec chart supports everything you said, Carl. I am now extremely happy with the True Carbon and while it doesn't feel quite like Butterfly blades in terms of balance and solidness, the feel and results when playing are similar enough that people can choose it without losing sleep.

Thanks for the reply Greco. I do like the Boll Spirit and will happily stay with it i was just wondering if it would be worth me trying the Boll ALC

Sorry Carl, should if explained it more clearer. Exactly what Nextlevel said is what i meant. Also i have seen some reviews saying that Tenergies perform better on a Boll AlC that a Boll Spirit. No Idea why just what i have read

It's about the most common blade in the world, can't you borrow someone else's tb alc with tenergy on and hit with it? Then you could decide if it is worth buying with some personal experience.

Thats is the thing mate no one uses the Boll ALC around my area which is ashame.

I actually downgraded from Timo Boll Spirit to 5ply wood blade.
