Trying to understand equipment from the standpoint of emotional need and without any form of testing the equipment yourself leads to strange things.
It is also funny how, trying to save money, buying 30 rubbers that cost and average of $12 a sheet, you will still pay more than if you buy two sheets of Tenergy.
If you want to try stuff out, ask people if you can test their equipment. After you have done that enough, you can start to judge for yourself a range of things that will work for you. Really, there are plenty of setups I could use with very little adjustment. Equipment is really not that important. Training is what causes you to improve. I understand the idea of trying things for the sake of it being fun. I understand that sometimes it is just nice to get something new to HAVE even though you don't need it. As long as you can afford it, get what you want. But don't think it matters that much.
If you handed me a Viscaria with H3 on FH and H3 with 37-degree sponge for BH, a Mizutani ZLC with T05 on FH and T64 on BH and a Stiga Allround Classic with Rasanter R48 on FH and R45 on BH, if I had 5 min to warm up with each setup and then played a match, I would play at pretty much exactly the same level. And yes, I would be able to adjust to each different setup with a few min of hitting to get used to it.
Get something and use it and only mess around with equipment if it makes you happy. But some of this stuff sounds like people are chasing their tails and making themselves the opposite of happy.

Hopefully that is not the case.
