"Mr. Surpassed" will most likely get battered for stating that his goal is to win Olympic Gold.

[Table Tennis] Togami Shunsuke: "Doha is just a stepping stone." World table tennis doubles gold medalist's next goal is the Olympic Games

"The World Championships turned out to be a really good tournament and I enjoyed it. However, when I was actually competing it was tough and difficult."

Men's table tennis player Shunsuke Togami (Imuraya Group/Ochsenhausen) won the men's doubles gold medal at the Doha World Championships in May, marking the first gold medal in 64 years. He also made a strong showing in singles, defeating world-ranked players Tomokazu Harimoto and Djordjic to advance to the quarterfinals . After the tournament, he scored two goals in both singles and doubles in the German Bundesliga final, contributing greatly to his club, Ochsenhausen's, victory. His experience in Europe, away from Japan, has led to significant growth. In a lengthy interview in the October issue of Table Tennis Kingdom, currently on sale, Togami discusses his current state of mind. "In the end, it was a great tournament, a lot of fun, and it gave me confidence for the future. However, it was a tough and tiring tournament," he recalls. Regarding his fierce battle with Tomokazu Harimoto, he said, "I knew how much he put into this tournament, so I felt a little sorry for him when I won." Regarding his loss to Målegård in the quarter-finals, Togami said, "I felt the difference in his composure and unwavering strength on the big stage," making him realize the barriers to the world. Nevertheless, he expressed his strong determination, saying, "Doha is just a stepping stone. My ultimate goal is the Olympic gold medal." In the 2024-2025 season, Togami vows to use his experience in the Bundesliga to further improve himself. He has his sights set on the world's top in both singles and men's doubles, which will be an official event at the Los Angeles Olympics.

This should be the goal of every single professional, he is just open enough to admit it.

I don’t know why anyone would slate others for setting goals and targets. He’s making good progress and I’ll keep supporting :)

Thanks for translating!!

because there is a unnecessary side of some Asian cultures, which can be preserved as "showing off".
so that is why nl jokes that it is waving red meat, for the tieba bullies to attack on.

even when players like sabine says her goals (WR40 before end of 2025), she was laughed at by zeio.
so this is clearly a cultural problem in a way, but I do believe it is minority, where one thinks its okay to laugh at others, as there are still those others that will wish good luck or also agree that it is a good or solid goal to set.

end of the day, there is only 1 winner and the rest are all losers, so it is okay to not win - it isn't the end of the world and these tieba users need to understand that. This is no different with tb on ht, where no 3 in the world is just not enough..... you know, these parents, if the kids get 90% in maths, they will probably get grounded, even if the kids got 99%, it is just not enough

Because it's an imaginary crowd that some here have created when they consistently fail to come up with a sound argument.

The truth is that Togami actually felt ashamed for failing to walk the talk (proudly proclaiming how he shoulders the 日の丸/hinomaru) and ended up being teased by the Japanese public. On top of that, there is Mizutani who criticizes them from time to time.
