Nandan Naresh 1-3
Xiangjing Zhang 0-3
Sid Naresh 0-3
Jishan Liang 2-3
Kanak Jha 2-3
Sally Moyland 1-3

Every MS entrant and our WS national champion knocked out in the first (non-qualifying) round; I think the tables are the least of our (USATT's) worries

At least the Nandan-Dima match was exciting through ~3 games...

Ricardo posted his second VLOG. Criticises the playing conditions again. The tables in the practice area are really slow, but the match tables are much faster so everyone is struggling with it. The flooring is not great. They put wood planks beneath the floor and once you stomp the table shakes. Furthermore it can get windy in the tent. I think I read somewhere the AC had to be turned off to improve the drift resulting in too much heat which Dang Qiu complained about. Rain apparently even got in and due to a sandstorm a couple of days ago training in the afternoon had to be cancelled. You can also see a separate room that houses the TTR set-up at 6:17. It's pretty crazy.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the umpire kept miscounting the score to the point that the assistant umpire switched places with her.
IS the bad playing condition caused by US or WTT? If WTT is willing to pay more money, I think they will get a first class stadium. US national and US Open seem to run OK without all the problems mentioned.

Is the host city supposed to pay for /pick the tournament location? Not sure whom to blame, but if WTT is on a tight budget then there is no way to create a good playing environment.

Someone with more knowledge needs to answer that. I would imagine the host city is paying for most of it.

@Matt Hetherington might want to comment on the Joola Horizon tables. Is this a design flaw with the Joola Horizon tables or is it cause of the flooring?

Might also want to comment on the difference between the match tables and the practice tables that the players have been using. Players like Ricardo have notice differences between the two.
there should be nothing wrong with the table.
when you put wooden planks between the floor and the flooring cover, this will happen.

Same thing happened in Cape Town WJTTC, where the local host committee followed ITTF regulations, and I was like, you just walk normally, and the net is moving.... it was crazy

the man in the chair, can't do anything? maybe need to change the man on the chair

this is when you call the referee, and the referee call the technical guys to do something about it.

or, just play on, as you would in the garage pong tournament
Umpire told Tiago he can call the referee, but he asked if he could even do anything about it. It didn't seem like an issue they could fix so he continued. Umpire said the situation with the floor/table has been like that from the beginning.

how many tables/players at WC 2018 vs Smash?
It doesn't follow that the number of tables and players have any bearing on the quality of the venue. The Women's World Cup 2016 held at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia was well-received.

3 tables were used for QR (41/39/28 matches over 3 days) at US Smash 2025, held in the middle of summer at a relatively high altitude.
4 tables were used for QR (41/28 over 2 days) at WTT SCT Chennai 2025, held in the the spring at close to sea level. Chance of getting soiled by bird droppings, non-zero.
2 tables were used for Grp and main draw (12/12/4 matches over 3 days) at Men's World Cup 2018, held in the fall at close to sea level.
2 tables were used for Grp and main draw (16/8/4 matches over 3 days) at Women's World Cup 2016, held in the fall at close to sea level.

So US Smash is a far bigger event

# of players is the size of the event. Smashes are WTTC equivalents just not as prestigious or billed as such yet. A World Cup is a small invitational, not even on the level of a national open or championship in complexity or size.

Doesn't matter how many players and tables are in the venue. If there is a bird nest up in the ceiling, it ruins the impression.

While true that this ruins the impression, this is tied to the logistics and cost of getting large venue. It is easier to get a smaller venue with fewer issues and also provide training tables. Size matters.
