There is a player at my club who is turning 90 soon as well I believe. Great to know that you've picked the sport that you will never be too old to enjoy
I had a clubmate who had his last breath during a League match playing away. And he was around 65. Then again I have someone who plays at a really good Level around 1450TTR at the age of ~75 no pips lots of drives Topspins as if he is a young player. Quick feets also. I actually have a few games vs him on my channel. I respect him a lot and hope I can enjoy it as much as him and have the health to play at his age.
People like this guy still playing at 91 are my heroes.
I have a buddy who played soccer in college. He loves the game. He's my age now in being mid 40s. Yeah he hasn't played soccer in probably 5 or so years. Too many injuries and too athletic based to really play as you get older.
Sad to me to think of this game you love to play being over so soon in life. That's why I love table tennis. You can play it until you're old & gray and honestly still be pretty darn good relatively speaking at an advanced age being a skill based game.
I plan myself on playing as long as I can into my elder years.
Yeah we had a few members that were late 80s / early 90s back when I played as a junior in the 80s. Like above we had two of them pass away at the club. That said, there was a chap who was in his early 40s that had a heart attack and died on the way home from a league match - he was probably the fittest guy I’ve ever known too.
At the start of this league season, I was the youngest player with a team average age of near 80yo. Mid-season, we lowered that average by recruiting a 65yo.
For next season we are thinking of changing our team name to, Arthritics TTC.
