What is the ideal throw angle on the forehand rubber?

I find that if a throw angle is low, the rubber is very limited. It has trouble executing a wide variety of shots like opening loops, counter loops, flicks, etc.

But I also find that if a throw angle is too high, it forces you to play with a more closed racket face. Because you now have less surface area to work with, you make more unforced errors and whiffs.

What is your ideal throw angle? Are there certain rubbers that you find have too high or too low throw angle? For example I find that Dignics 09c has a quite high throw angle, not outrageous, but slightly causes more unforced errors due to racket angle.

Usually the newer tensors have a high throw. The Dignics09C has one of the highest throw angles, it is hard to keep on table without getting the feel.

I play with Baracuda and it also has a high throw angle, so need some adaptation.

Something like a Donic Bluefire or the Rasanter series should be having a comfortable throw. For me the Tenergy series were okay too. You should have something with a medium high throw, so you can hit the ball onto the table and still get over the next.

IT depends on too many things for you to meaningfully discuss the subject. Swing path is not just about closing the racket, some people swing faster and more horizontally, or faster and vertically, some like to hit through the ball more, some like to brush more thinly. All those things as well as the hardness of the sponge and the nature of the pip configuration affect the exit angle of the ball. High throw angle can let you hit through the ball more as the ball will arc anyways as one example. IT all depends on your approach to the ball.

The higher the throw angle the easier it will be to get a high arc on the top spin shots. The higher the arc you hit your top spins the bigger margin of error you will have since you will have more of the table to work with (and the ball will usually spin more). However, a shot hit with a lower arc will be faster, but then the angle over the net is lower so you have a lower margin of error.

So what is optimal? I guess it is a matter of feel and playstyle ...

I play equally well with high or low throw rubbers on my FH, assuming they are spinny ones. Since I am playing mostly better players than me(very high ligue) I noticed that they have less problems to counter or smash when I create a high arc balls, so I choose to stay with the lower throw ones(not ridiculously low of course) In my hands the throw is very much dependant on the blade I use, not just the rubber

I don't think there is an ideal throw angle. It depends on your style. I have used H3 Neo for many years. I like to serve short, very spinny backspin serve. Once the ball comes back to my side of the table with a push, I loop and start my third ball attack. The throw angle tends to be very low at that point. That is just the way I was trained by my Chinese coach growing up. He taught me to hit through the ball (hence engaging the hard sponge) but brush and snap my forearm, shoulder and my waist in one single motion. That effectively generates a spinny top spin loop that barely crosses the top of the net and when it lands, the ball kicks and drops even lower after that initial bounce.

So either my opponent pushes my spinny backspin serve into the net or I open up with third ball attack and try to finish the point early.

But once in a while, on my third ball attack, just to mix things up a bit, I would intentionally brush the ball lightly and use the tackiness (not engaging the sponge at all) and pull the ball up into a slow, top spin.

So with H3 Neo, you can argue that it can do both low throw and high throw angles.

I got Baracuda one time for my paddle. I put it on. The throw angle was so high (and I could not lower it no matter how I did my looping motion) that I got fed up and after an hour, ripped the rubber off and gave it to one of my club mate for free.

any spring sponge has a good throw for me. it's all what you are used to. ideal is whatever fits your technique and what you trained with.

Paul Drinkhall would agree:
"When people talk about 'throw angle', it's really hard to rate and you should be aware of anybody that does a review and gives a definite rating for this. The reason is that it depends on your stroke, how you contact the ball, your timing point etc - these are individual things and the bat is in YOUR hand!"
