My serves are not great so I tend to use a wide variety in order to keep my opponent guessing. In a single end I may use 6 or 7 different ones ranging from simple short backspin to various pendulum and reverse. Preference would be reverse backspin but it is nice to save it for when I really need it.

I chose other because I like all of my serves. Otherwise I wouldn't use them. As for a favorite service I don't think I could get it down to one. I would have to say any service that allows me to second bounce on the baseline is a great service for me. Really gets a lot of people to pop the ball up when they think they can loop off the end of the table, but have to go back in to push it back last second.

Yup, it's a good serve when you don't like people winning points straight away...but how would you deal with the possibilities of the return(i think most good players would be able to return the serve safely to all corners of the table)? Especially those players with deceptive short game, I hate serving underspin to those guys, they destroy me with their well-placed returns.

Usually I would take a little step back. If the ball is short, it would be easier for me to move forward. If the ball is long, I can start my attack. It's more difficult to move back when they push deep into you elbow.

Assuming if my opponent is a right-hander, if I were to serve wide to his FH, he would most probably push to middle or wide to my FH, so I will be prepared. If he doesn't, instead he pushes to my body on my BH, I'll loop if it's long. If it's short and a bit high, I'll flick. If it's short and low, I'll take the ball on the rise and push it deep to his BH depriving him time to react.:)

Just keep it simple, that's what I say. Sometimes I would still do no spin, sides, reverse, but very rare, 2 or 3 times in a set if the player is really good.

My advice is, have 1 or 2 really good serves, rather than have 5 or 6 but they're all mediocre. Learn to make the ball bounce really low after the 1st bounce with your under spin serve. Some players can serve short, but the ball pops up after the the 1st bounce. That's no good against good players. Practice buddy, it'll make you a better player. :) I still spend 1 to 2 hours every week just to practice my serves.

I spend half an hour once every 2 days just on serves. I also use a string and try to serve through the gap between the net and the string. To make it more interesting, I put a bat and targets around the table and try to hit those targets.

That's a very good initiative buddy:) Get the 1st bounce about a foot from the net, and take it from there.
