Not the point though, the point is that Jpen is not a serious limiter of your level at the amateur or even pro-level, it comes down to other things.

You could get to 2200. You could probably get to any level that amateurs play at. It will take more effort, though. And you will need very good footwork.

If you want to play jpen, I salute you -- it's the purest way to play table tennis, in my opinion🫡

I believe the way forward is a Jpen player with advanced hidden serves, the as usual Jpen strengths like FH loopkill and fast TPB + LP to use for serve receive or defence or twiddling. If trained properly, I believe even top 10 is achievable.

I think twiddling jpen with modern style frictionless antispin on the reverse side could be more effective than with lp because of the insane dampening properties of these modern antispin rubbers providing a large contrast to an attacking smooth rubber on the other side.

Yep either LP or antispin would work. The problem i can see Jpen now is that they are very strong when the game is in short game + 1st strong FH loopkill mode (a mode that even Ma Long relies on), but they are hopeless when it goes into a fast topspin rally. And now there are way too many ways to convert the game into fast topspin rallies, so they cant compete.

LP or anti can really slow the game down by converting topspin back into underspin reliably (inverted chopblock can never have this kind of consistency), which forces the game back into short game + 1st strong FH loopkill mode which is the game that penholders very much prefer to play.

Truth, the honest brutal honest truth of the highest level:
Putting a piece of spring-sponge on a 10.5mm thick one-ply pure kiso-hinoki JPen and hitting a FH is in itself the highest level of pure bliss. Other super bouncy ESN candidate such as MX-P or Donic Bluestorm series are also pure ecstacy.

I think an exceptional athlete like RSM could still reach top10 in the world today but not top3-4.

However of course that player with that kind of footwork and forehand could easily become number 1 in the world with a decent BH topspin ( ma long essentially was RSM with a solid BH topspin) so it would kinda be a waste of potential.

A more normally talented excellent jpen or 1 sided cpen I think could reach top100 in the world. But again that same player would probably also be better as a SH or 2 sided pH player.
