Which top player(s) inspired you to play?

Stellan Bengtsson originally for me, because :-

- World Champion
- A year or so younger than me
- Left-handed
- Not another Chinese clone.
Ditto here! Also Stellan Bengtsson got me playing table tennis, especially he is indeed also left-handed.
Therefore, my love always goes out to all left-handed table tennis players
I started playing table tennis in 1975 and first saw him live in 1977 at the World Championships in Birmingham.

well, my dad was a coach, and he used to be one of the top players in former country, so he is probably the main reason I am playing as he took me with him to practice sessions and tournaments often, but still, we watched a lot of table tennis (besides F1 😂, strange family, I know) and it was always - Mikael Appelgren vs. Jorgen Persson vs. Jan Ove Waldner. and he was always comenting Waldner like - you see, how he moves, you see how he is always on the ball at the right time but it doesn't seem like he is moving, see? watch and learn! :D

later on Jorg Rosskopf joined the party and when I was knocking on the door of national team Timo Boll entered the chat and gave me hope that maybe European player can take on the Chinese ... at that time I had first encounters with Chinese players and really had some self-esteem problems when facing them, but Timo gave me hope, that maybe one day, if I work hard enough ...

The Ma Long undergoing knee surgery in the US. He described his change of attitude towards table tennis.

Prior to surgery he only wanted to win.

During recovery he realized table tennis is not just an obligation, it is his life. He missed tt so much that he enjoyed so much when he played the first match.

It went from competition to enjoyment, from a career to a passion.

I had to take 6 months off due to left knee cap wear (too much FH 🤣). I remember how much joy tt bring when i picked up my racket.

From then on I just enjoy tt as if I won't be able to play it tomorrow

Oh then kneecap. I had issues with that forehand about a month in January. Stairs, especially going down was difficult to say the least. As my class is the third level and have to take stairs, carrying my guitar made it hard on my knees.
