Why is Stiga OC so popular? Didn't it come out in the 70's? Shouldn't it be a hard but slow blade with minimal application nowadays?

I have an Intensity and Clipper, I can see why people like them, but not the OC. I have experience with Azalea Off, and it is a soft but fast spin monster.

What weirded me out is that it's supposed to be koto outer, isn't it rock hard? And being that thin it has to be really bad with the vibrations.

What am I missing? Is it that good?

Very Controlled, a lot of Feedback, decent speed and support when you hit harder unlike Allround blades for example.
It is not made for an offensive 2 wing looper.
Its more User friendly and easier to play.
Better suited for amateurs, younger Kids who are not that advanced yet, people who are developing strokes and want to have control and occasionally attack some balls here and there.
Not made for mid distance Looping.
Better at blocking, absorbing etc.

Its between All+ and Off-.

Got it, how hard is it? Is it koto or limba outer? Could be a good fit for short pips.

I had one a long long time ago.

Sold it.

IIRC, it is a blade that was neither here nor there.

All Round Classic was great as a beginner blade.

Clipper is the next progression.

OC is like bridging btw AR & Clipper, it is just neither here nor there.

I cannot recall any outstanding feature that it had.

The problem with OC nowadays is that it is too thin, thus too flexible for 40+ plastic ball. It was excellent back in the celluloid 38 mm ball, but not anymore in the current era. You need a bit of backbone (stability) with the 40+ mm plastic ball.
I don't say that people should not use it, few people might like it. But for me, I prefer something more solid (although still a bit flexy for hard looping).

By the way, long long time ago (40 years ago??) OC had koto outerply. Since then, it is replaced with limba. Thickness is still only 5.4-5.5 mm only (5.6 mm at most?).

You are better off using Donic Dicon or Avalox BT555 or BTY Chuan Chih Yuan (all with 5.7 - 5.8 mm in thickness, with similar composition).

If you are after the original OC (with Koto outerply) then choose Avalox P500. 5,7-5,8 mm in thickness with similar composition with the old OC.

Or better yet, Butterfly just releases Hadraw 5, with koto outerply (similar composition with old OC) but the thickness is 5.9 mm, so the characteristics of the blade might be greatly different.
