Kanak Jha came to Germany in 2017 I think and started in third league. Now he is one of the best performers in the Bundesliga and shows new heights almost every tournament. Really great to see his development.

Ia there somewhere a cheat sheet of shorts to names?,

I don't know if there's a list or not, but if you say the names out loud, you can generally get the abbreviation from that. Ex: Ma Long -> ML, Fan Zhendong -> FZD, Lin Yun-Ju -> LYJ, Timo Boll -> TB, etc.

I'm rooting hard for Timo Boll atm.

He has a favorable draw this time. In the upper Half all the chinese FZD, LGY,LJK, WCQ will have to battle it out among each other.
And in the lower half the Young Stars Harimoto and Lin Jun Yu are eliminated.

So the way it is now: The upper half will be a chinese battle royale, but the lower half is completely open for a surprise.

what happened to Wang Yang and Timo Boll?
I heard something like WO and covid, not sure

That's right; sadly for Wang Yang he was identified as a close contact of someone who tested positive and so has to self-isolate. You can see the news here: https://worldtabletennis.com/description?artId=823

Not sure how good that is for Timo though. After a 1st round bye, and two relatively easy matches thereafter, now he has (effectively) another bye and then it's into the QF. I wonder if he might feel he hasn't really had a chance to get into his stride properly in this tournament yet.

On the other hand, he's so experienced I'm sure he knows how to handle all of this.
