Definitely. Boll losing to Waldner at Athens 2024 was one of his biggest falls. Losing to RSM at WTTC 2007 was another.

Compared to WTTC 2005 bronze medalist Maze (took down Wang Hao and Hao Shuai) who was also born in 1981, Boll has only taken down Chen Qi at WTTC 2011 (and ultimately won bronze) and Zhao Qihao (the only CNT player in his half of the bracket) at WTTC 2021 (won bronze again).
You mean Athens 2004

Well, she just came back from an injury. At her age it'll take some time for her to fully recover.
Yeah but she won Euro Cup 2025. Just luck? It is more likely she may have had a separate physical issue here than that she hasn't fully recovered from her prior issues.

Chen Yuanyu needs a massive backhand rebuild over the next couple of years if he is to achieve his full potential.
He's got a LOT work to do right now, service receives aren't great either. IDK why the CNT keeps trotting him out. Where's HYZ? He's been doing really well in China and internationally, I'd like to see him get some more experience.

HYZ's ranking is still too low to qualify for CS. True to LGL's comment, CNT is giving everyone roughly equal opportunities in the first year.

ZYL vs Hayata should be an interesting matchup considering the former used to struggle a little against the latter, if memory serves.

I think she struggled against Nagasaki actually. But Nagasaki's style is like Hayata-lite, so I see why you confounded one for the other.
Hayata only became trouble for the Chinese players after Tokyo. And Zhu has left the team before then.

Shinozuka lost 0-3 to Lind and Uda 0-3 to Moregard, Togami lost 2-3 to Franziska

Team Japan is doing really bad. Fortunately, We saw the good Sora today 3-0 against Qiu ...
When the zeio favorites play worst, you know by his silence. Had they won, all we would have heard was about the dusting of Togami... but since Togami actually won 2 more games than those who surpassed him, we have to wait until the next event...

I'm held up by other stuff and haven't followed the event as closely.

As I posted, Uda had a leg cramp during the T.League playoff final and many of the JNT players came right off the league playoff. I made it clear in the thread for WTT CS Chennai 2025 that many of them were excused. Togami losing in R32 here reinforces my stance that he made the right choice skipping Chennai. Matsushima losing to a European player right after his bold claim doesn't help his case. They are all pots and kettles at this moment in time.

Also, rather than my favorites, Uda had the best overall stats as I've stressed repeatedly. Togami, Odo and Matsushima are free to convince me with stats rather than sentiments. Same thing with Aruna.

You did have enough time to post the Togami scores, but not enough to post the Shinozuka scores. Sora beat Qiu Dang here today but that must have been when you were busy and not convincing enough for your stats. As for Quadri, I have zero problem with anyone arguing he is (currently) overrated or benefitting from the continental assignment as long as they point out how many similarly overrated players have beaten Harimoto, Boll, Lin Yun Ju, Alexis Lebrun, Felix Lebrun, Hugo Calderano, Liang Jingkun etc. Everyone has unknown injuries and conditions, since you are so stats focused, no need to make any excuses for Uda, we will just wait for the results over time to catch up. I have no doubt that at some point, you will be convinced by the stats that the current hierarchy is largely correct.

Harimoto uses baseball as an analogy, saying the new system (referring to the new cycle starting with April 1st [note: the fiscal year of JTTA starts on this day] with the new coaches and staff) has only just started and 3 or 4 years are a long time and he hopes to win here [WTT CS Incheon 2025 is considered the 1st event of the year] to build up his momentum for WTTC 2025.

As always, go convince the Tieba users and the Yahoo Japan users. The national title is the last thing that keeps Hayata as Japan's no. 1, the shortest "First Lady" as some Tieba users put it.

As Hirano already put it at the start of T.League season 2024/2025 and the new year, her focus has shifted to leading the team to the title as the captain and the oldest member on the team.

There are still 3 more days before the announcement on the future direction beside the new head coaches, but year 2025, at least the very start of it, likely won't matter. This is the first 4-year Olympic cycle in 8 years and there are too many uncertainties to account for. The top priority of every player is to stay healthy for now. The WR is useless until perhaps 2026.

Harimoto 1-3 LYJ (-7, -7, 6, -6)
G1 77, 711

R16
Ito 3-0 Polcanova
G1 68, 118
G2 25, 65 TO for Polcanova, 95, 96, 106, 107, 117
G3 41, 43, 73, 76 TO for Ito, 96, 97, 117
Ito's decline seems irreversible at this point. Got through SXN and Polcanova only through variations.

With the understanding that Mima can no longer beat the top tier Chinese, I'm sure the vast majority of pros would love to be as good as Mima and beat Sofia Polcanova 3-0.
