Yes. Kasumi Kimura beat Mima Ito 4-3 at the 2024 All Japan. I remember a few years ago when Kimura beat Hina Hayata twice in the same T League season.

Uda impressive 3-1 victory over Gauzy who seemed content to stand back there and fish... and lose.

I think it's because Uda did a lot of short arc loops against backspin to open the rally. Simon by instinct often fell back expecting those loops to go deep but due to them being short he couldn't defend well thus causing the return to have high bounce for Uda to push him far away from the table

Diya is still up and coming in India so it is a good learning experience. Sometimes you have to play against that level of skill to believe it exists and aspire to it.

Impressive performance by the Thai women. Paranang's rallying ability was on par with Miwa and there were a lot of beautiful blocks and redirects of Miwa's power shots. Interestingly, Suthasani's little sister Jinnipa apparently has a 3-0 win over Batra last year too. I guess the Thai team must be used to playing against pips.

The rest of Southeast Asia is going to have a hard time catching up to these two, with I guess Zeng Jian being the exception.

I wrote a few years ago over at MyTT (lost forever) that I needed more time to observe and that Pavade could've done better against Asian players. This match is exactly what I meant by that. Same old problem. She got lucky a week or 2 ago when Hirano (who actually led until the endgame in all 3 games) and Ito were fatigued (forget SYB).

Sawettabut was off to a good start last time but missed on that pop-up at 5:2 and Pavade got an edge for the next 2 points, which killed the momentum. Not so lucky for Pavade this time. She is very vulnerable to a spin-based game.
